Sandown: Race 1 (11:30am)
No. 3 Elvison

Some of the country’s best jumpers will go around in the Ladbrokes Australian Steeplechase, but Elvison is the one that I want to be with.

Elvison only just missed in a quality Steeplechase at The ‘Bool two starts back, and was far too good for them at Casterton last time out.

This is harder, but he steps out in peak order, and it really doesn’t look beyond him.

Sandown: Race 3 (12:50pm)
No. 2 Princess Rhaenys

Stakes-performed mare Princess Rhaenys looks beautifully placed to strike at Sandown today.

The daughter of Iffraaj returned a winner at Ballarat in the autumn of 2021 and went to the paddock after finishing fourth in the Group 1 Vinery Stud Stakes.

She has improved for two starts back this time, including a credible third placing at Caulfield last time out, and she is ready to win.

Sandown: Race 4 (1:30pm)
No. 1 Runaway

The tried-and-true Runaway goes around in this contest, and he’s the one I want to be with.

The veteran galloper has had ten starts over the jumps for three wins and two placings, and he has been competitive this time in, improving for each of his three starts.

The absolute top liners are probably beyond him these days, but they’re all engaged in the feature races today.

Sandown: Race 5 (2:10pm)
No. 1 Saunter Boy

Saunter Boy is an outstanding jumper, and he’ll take beating again when he steps out in the Ladbrokes Australian Hurdle.

He enjoyed a pretty smart career on the flat earlier on, but he really has found a home for Maher & Eustace in the country’s headline jumps races, and he takes his place in this contest following consecutive wins in the MJ Bourke Hurdle at Pakenham and the Galleywood at The ‘Bool.

With appropriate luck, I can’t find a reason why he won’t be in the finish again.
