Flemington: Race 1 (1pm)
No. 1 Steel Prince

Some talented stayers will contest the first at HQ today, but Steel Prince is the one for me.

The veteran gelding has improved for three starts back this time, finished down the order in the Peter Young and the Australian Cup, but charging home into third, beaten less than a length at Caulfield last time.

He loves Flemington, he steps out this week at peak fitness and I think that this is the perfect race for him.

Flemington: Race 2 (1:35pm)
No. 1 Fluorescent Star

Fluorescent Star looks a winning chance at Flemington today.

The Zoustar mare returned some lovely performances last time in, striking a race not dissimilar to this one, and she ended her prep with a credible effort for fifth in Group 3 company.

I thought that there was a lot to like about her resuming effort for third behind Juan Diva at Caulfield last week, and she’ll take plenty of benefit from that hit-out.

Flemington: Race 5 (3:20pm)
No. 1 Cherry Tortoni

Cherry Tortoni finally broke back into the winner’s stall last time, and he gets another chance at Flemington.

The Night Of Thunder gelding has been an outstanding horse for the Patrick Payne yard throughout his career, and he was unlucky not to taste success at the highest level during his three-year-old season.

He’s had four starts back this time, improving for each, and he recorded a lucrative win in the Golden Mile at Bendigo last time out.

Flemington: Race 6 (3:55pm)
No. 4 Squid Game

Squid Game can make a winning return at Flemington today.

Squid Game stamped himself as a runner to follow during his debut prep, winning his first two starts, including one at this track and trip, and ending his campaign third behind a couple of decent types.

He clearly races well fresh, is proven under the conditions and will take beating.
