A-League Matchweek 20 Tips & Preview

A football feast awaits us in A-Leauge men’s match week 20 with games starting with some midweek action and wrapping up on Sunday as every side seems to be playing catch up due to all the chaos covid and the weather has done with the 2021-22 season.

Some terrific games are to be played and some terrific value is there to be found for the Punters.

Let’s rip into our tips and preview.

NEWCASTLE JETS VS SYDNEY FC
Over 2.5 Goals @ $1.87

Sydney FC heads up the highway to face an up about Newcastle Jets fresh from a huge 4-0 win over the Nix in their last start.

The sky blues will also fancy themselves having beaten Western United 3-0 just recently.

This game looms as a make or break for the Jets season, with Newcastle five points outside of the top six and a tough draw in their remaining matches.

You would expect Sydney FC to get the job done in this one, but you can be assured that there will be plenty of the ball going behind the back of the net.

The ‘Over 2.5 Goals’ market has hit in 16 of Newcastle’s last 17 A-League matches.

Take the $1.87 on the over to the bank.

BRISBANE ROAR VS WESTERN UNITED
Draw @ $3.15

Both sides have a quick three-day turnaround from Wednesday night, with the Roar coming off a 2-1 loss to City at home and Western United managing to split the points with Victory in a local derby.

Despite the Roar sitting 11th on the ladder, Punters fancy the Roar as $2.60 favourites at time of publish.

Western United have gone their past three games without a win and will see this as a perfect opportunity to get back on the winners’ list.

However, with the quick turnaround, get feel (and price) suggests the $3.15 on offer is worth a crack.

WELLINGTON PHOENIX VS PERTH GLORY
SGM - Over 2.5/Draw @ $10.71

Fascinating betting match this one as the iconic Leichardt Oval plays host to the Distance Derby.

The Nix will be desperate to get back on the winner’s list after suffering a 4-0 loss to the Jets in their most recent match.

Perth Glory has given Richard Garcia his marching orders and everyone knows that no matter the sport, the team always lifts after they sack the coach.

However, with Perth going seven games without a win and sitting down the bottom of the table, it’s still very hard to make a case for an upset here.

The Distance Derby is usually a high-scoring affair with the over 2.5 goals market hitting in eight of the last 10 encounters between these two sides, so I’ll spice it up with a Same Game Multi backing the over and the draw.

MACARTHUR VS MELBOURNE CITY
Macarthur @ $3.20

This Saturday presents as the perfect time for the Bulls to beat Melbourne City.

With what seems to be half of city’s squad missing, now is the chance to jag a full three points on the table.

In what seems to be a good value underdog bet, Macarthur was $4.20 and have gone into $3.20

City remains the $2.15 favourite, but they just got the job done over Brisbane Roar, missing most of their good players and will be playing their third match in the space of seven days.

Back the home team for the upset.

CENTRAL COAST MARINERS VS ADELAIDE UNITED
Central Coast Mariners @ $2.35

If there’s one thing I love, it’s a good punting stat.

Or just a stat in general.

95% of people love stats.

Here’s a good one in relation to the Central Coast Mariners v Adelaide United game this Saturday night:

The home team has won each of the last five A-League matches between Central Coast and Adelaide.

The home team is the Central Coast Mariners with the match getting played in front the beautiful palm trees and sauce bottles of Central Coast Stadium.

Get around the Mariners at the $2.35 on offer.

MELBOURNE VICTORY VS WESTERN SYDNEY WANDERERS
HT/FT Victory/Victory @ $2.88

Melbourne Victory…more like Melbourne Draw, am I right?

The Victory have played out two 1-1 draws against fellow Victorian sides City and Western United in their past two games and will be keen to get the full three points back against the Wanderers on Sunday.

This looms as a must-win game for Melbourne Victory who currently sit sixth on the table and want to remain in the finals race, and a much improved Wanderers outfit will give them a run for their money.

The punters don’t rate Western Sydney as $4.10 underdogs in this match and I tend to agree.

Expect Victory to get the job done and the half time/full time double is a good value bet in this clash.

Midweek Fixtures (COMPLETED)

MELBOURNE VICTORY VS WESTERN UNITED
Leigh Broxham Anytime Goalscorer @ $8

From one Melbourne Derby to another, Melbourne Victory will take on Western United in a midweek clash at AAMI Park.

However, this is a significant game in A-League and Melbourne Victory’s history with club legend Leigh Broxham chalking up match 350.

Broxham becomes just the third player in the history of the competition to reach this milestone but is the first player to do it for just one club.

Wednesday nights game will be Victory’s fifth outing in the month of March alone and they’ve got just the four days to back it up after their 1-1 draw against Melbourne City on Saturday night.

Western United comes off a 3-0 loss to Sydney FC.

However, form aside sometimes you gotta be sentimental and it would be fitting for Broxham, who is the heart and soul of the Melbourne Victory Football Club to get one in the back of the net in tonight’s clash.

The $8 price is good value and wouldn’t that make the Northern terrace / AAMI Park go wild!

Congrats Brox on game 350 and an amazing career!

BRISBANE ROAR VS MELBOURNE CITY
Melbourne City @ $2.20

Melbourne City will have to back it up after a 1-1 draw with Victory on Saturday night as they make the trip to Redcliffe and take on the 11th placed Roar.

A string of draws against fellow Victorian sides Victory and Western United have annoyed the League leaders and they will be keen to get the full three points against a lowly Brisbane side who is having a season to forget.

City is yet to lose a game outside of Victoria this season, but with some players on Socceroos duty tomorrow night such as Mathew Leckie, Jamie Maclaren, Marco Tilio and Connor Metcalfe the Roar might be a sneaky chance.

But don’t go thinking that.

Melbourne City bats deep and they’ll get the job done.

Take the respectable $2.20 for a Melbourne City win to bank.
