The final Group 1 race at The Valley this season will be run and won on Friday night, and the William Reid Stakes is always a highlight of late autumn.
Talented mare Marabi puts an unbeaten record on the line and unsurprisingly, she has opened a short favourite in 2022 William Reid Stakes betting.

I usually like trying to find one to beat a favourite as short as Marabi, but I simply do not think there is one in the William Reid Stakes.
She stamped herself as one to watch with a dominant win on debut at Pakenham and she has continued to improve with racing and as the bar has been raised, culminating in a smart win in the Neds Oakleigh Plate last time out.
She’s a month between runs, but that hasn’t been an issue previously, and she loves racing at The Valley.
He clearly needed the run when he finished down the order in the Black Caviar Lightning Stakes, but this is a far softer target, and The Inferno can return a competitive effort in the William Reid Stakes.
The former Singaporean was excellent during his first Australian prep last year, winning the McEwen Stakes here at The Valley and only just missing in the Moir Stakes, most notably.
He is drawn well under Mark Zahra and is certainly up to the task.
Jonker finally realised his Group 1 potential in the Manikato Stakes over this route in spring, and he’s another galloper who looks a touch of overs at current William Reid Stakes odds.
The Spirit Of Boom entire has been a good horse throughout his career, but he has gone to another level under Tony Gollan, and he found his best in 2021.
He finished down the order in the Neds Oakleigh Plate first-up, but I’m expecting plenty of improvement for that hit-out, and getting back to The Valley.
I’m convinced that General Beau will win a Group 1 race at some point in his career, and I think that he can return another competitive effort third-up in the William Reid.
He ran home well to finish a credible seventh in the Neds Oakleigh Plate when resuming, and General Beau was only just denied in Listed company last time out.
He gets into this race well under the conditions, and the $26 about him at publish is a touch of overs in my opinion.
