2022 William Reid Stakes Night Tips & Preview

William Reid Stakes Night is the final Group 1 program at The Valley this season, and eight races will be run and won.

Alister Clark Stakes Night proved to be an extremely difficult one to tip last Friday, with many winners getting up north of $20, but I am confident that we can have a better time of it on William Reid Night.

You can find my complete 2022 William Reid Stakes Night Tips below!

Carlton Draught Emma Boling Plate (1200m) – 6:15pm AEDT
No. 2 Zarastro

I’m siding with Zarastro in the first on William Reid Stakes Night.

Zarastro has enjoyed a strong start to his racing career, and won both starts last time in, while he returned to finish a credible fourth in the Listed Moomba Plate.

He’ll take plenty of improvement from that hit-out, and this looks a slightly weaker race.

Ascend Sales Trophies Handicap (1200m) – 6:45pm AEDT
No. 1 Jucconi

Jucconi has opened a reasonably short favourite in betting for Race 2, and I think that he will justify the quote.

The Nicconi gelding was put away after recording two wins from as many starting during his debut prep, and he was denied by less than a length here when resuming.

With any improvement, I can’t find a reason why he won’t be in the finish.

Listed Valley Pearl (1200m) – 7:15pm AEDT
No. 7 Nanagui

Nanagui is still a maiden, but I am confident that she can and will record her first career win at Listed level on Friday.

The two-year-old daughter of Sebring flashed last to finish second in the Group 3 Chairman’s Stakes on debut, and she only just missed again in the Group 3 Thoroughbred Breeders Stakes last time out.

Fitter third-up and under Jamie Kah, she’s ready to win.

Group 2 Sunline Stakes (1600m) – 7:45pm AEDT
No. 7 Barb Raider

Only seven fillies and mares will contest the Sunline Stakes, but it’s an outstanding edition of the Group 2 feature.

Flying Mascot has opened a $1.65 favourite in Sunline Stakes betting, but I am going to take her on with second-elect Barb Raider.

Barb Raider was excellent throughout her 2021 prep, and she has returned two strong performances to win both The Vanity and the Kewney Stakes this time in.

Fitter third-up, under Craig Williams and with a light weight, she’s definitely a winning chance.

Ladbrokes 55 Second Challenge Final (955m) – 8:15pm AEDT
No. 3 Esta La Roca

Esta La Roca can win the Ladbrokes 55 Second Challenge Final.

Esta La Roca has been a great horse for the Kennewell yard since debuting, and she has placed in black type company several times.

She returned from a freshen-up to finish fifth, beaten only half a length in the Bob Hoysted Quality at Flemington earlier this month, and this looks the perfect race for her.

Chandler Macleod Handicap (2040m) – 8:45pm AEDT
No. 1 Inverell

I was pretty keen on Austrata in this contest, but with his scratching, I am now very keen on Inverell.

Inverell charged in to win in Class 1 company at Sandown when resuming, but not a lot went right in a tougher race there last time, and he finished down the order.

Fitter third-up I think tat getting out to this trip at this point of his prep will suit, and the booking of Jamie Kah obviously doesn’t hurt his chances either.

Group 1 William Reid Stakes (1200m) – 9:15pm AEDT
No. 9 Marabi

Marabi has opened a short favourite in William Reid Stakes betting, and for good reason.

I have her on top, but be sure to check out my complete race preview and 2022 William Reid Stakes Tips RIGHT HERE.

Group 3 Alexandra Stakes (1600m) – 9:45pm AEDT
No. 1 Bon's A Pearla

I am a big fan of Ancient Girl, but she’s a dual acceptor at Mornington on Saturday and I am confident she’ll go that way, so I’m instead going to have something on Bon’s A Pearla in the Alexandra Stakes.

Bons A Pearla recorded a shock win in the Group 2 Thousand Guineas Prelude in the spring, and while she needed her first two back this time to tune up, she steps out this week following a very impressive run for third in the Australian Guineas.

Brett Prebble rides and she’s certainly a winning chance.
