The UFC kicks off 2022 at the Apex in Las Vegas with a enticing match up at Featherweight.
Our UFC Fight Night: Kattar vs Chikadze Tips & Preview can be found below.
What a way to kick off 2022!
Calvin Kattar comes into this main event with four wins from his last six fights inside the UFC.
Both of those losses have been against quality opponents in Zabit Magomedsharipov and Max Holloway and both were by decision.
Despite absorbing the most amount of strikes in the history of the UFC against Holloway, he lost few admirers when he was able to land plenty of his own while taking damage.
Giga Chikadze is one the most exciting prospects in the Featherweight division and he is undefeated inside the UFC in seven fights.
Wins over veterans Cub Swanson and Edson Barboza have the hype train leaving the station but there is no doubt this is his toughest challenge to date.
I see Kattar as some what of gate keeper in this division and with limited amount of prospects for the Aussie champ Alex Volkanovski either of these two can out their hand up for a title shot in the near future.
I’m with Kattar to get the job done.
Brandon Royval comes into this fight off the back of two losses in a row to the Flyweight champ Brandon Moreno and Alexandre Pantoja.
The 29 year old does have a win against the emerging kiwi Kai Kara-France back in September 2020 when he put together four wins on the trot.
Rogerio Bontorin also put together back to back losses before he won a unanimous decision against Matt Schnell in mid 2021.
Both of these guys are capable grapplers and we are in for a treat if and when this fight goes to the canvas.
Royval will be looking to push the pace throughout this contest and control the fight wherever it goes and I think he has too many weapons at his disposal.
Katlyn Chookagian has been a much improved mixed martial artist since losing her Flyweight championship fight against Valentina Shevchenko.
And that is saying something because she was already near the top of the sport in her division.
Her only loss in her last four fights came against former strawweight champ Jessica Andrade and she will be looking to the top in 2022.
She already has a decision win over her opponent Jennifer Maia who also has a Flyweight title loss to Shevchenko.
Maia’s only fight in 2021 was a win over Jessica Eye via a unanimous decision.
She is a good stand up boxer who avoids her opponents jabs and I see this fight largely taking place on the feet.
Chookagian has become a very good points fighter and she can use her reach advantage in this match up and win a decision.
