One of the spring features may be happening in Melbourne on Saturday but Peter V’landys and the team north of the border have done an excellent job in somewhat hijacking the day.
The fifth running of The Everest is again worth a cool $15m in prize money and produced an excellent field of sprinters.

Zoushack was second to the very smart Count De Rupee first up at Rosehill before a plain performance at his second run wat Warwick Farm.
The son of Zoustar is a horse with a fair amount of talent and is more than capable of producing a rating high enough to win a race of this quality.
Hopefully he can kick start our day on a winning note.
Looks Like Elvis was enormous when resuming with a close second in the Group 3 Bill Ritchie at Royal Randwick.
Having beaten both Aramayo and Private Eye home in that race and they went on to quinella the Group 1 Epsom Handicap at their next start.
He was narrowly beaten in the Scone Cup when second up last prep and he has proven he handles the wet ground.
The lightly raced Ahead Start has managed three wins from six career starts and has been unplaced just once in that time.
He was backed into favouritism last start in a similar grade of Highway race where he got to within a length of the winner.
Should take plenty of benefit from that run and has drawn well in barrier two with James McDonald steering.
Unlike a few in this race, Decent Raine has proven herself at this level before.
Her closing sectionals in the Group 3 Scarborough Stakes at The Valley last start were super impressive and although she is being asked to go up in weight, she represents really good each way value.
She will need some pace on up front but she has drawn ideally to get a nice run in transit in barrier three.
I’m confident I’ve found the winner of The Kosciuszko with Edit who is a horse with an enormous amount of upside which is needed in this race.
The writing was on the wall with two huge trials leading into his first up race in Australia and he came from last to score by two lengths eased down.
He will take benefit from the run and will only improve with racing.
Signore Fox finished his last campaign with back to back placings at Group 1 level during the QLD winter carnival where he was beaten less than a length.
The six year old has had two impressive trials leading into this first up assignment including a fast finishing second behind Classique Legend.
Gytrash was enormous when resuming in The Shorts and with a bit more luck, he wins this year’s The Everest.
His recent trial was not the best work I’ve seen but he’ll be better for the run.
Home Affairs has returned to the track as a three year old as much bigger and stronger colt and he proved his talent when beating Paulele first up.
He’ll take benefit from that run and his recent hit out with Nature Strip was huge!
Shared Ambition has been solid so far this prep without winning and the six year old was only narrowly denied by Think It Over in the Group 2 Hill Stakes at this track and distance last start.
He should be ready to peak now at his fourth run and I’d to see James McDonald take a positive sit in the run from barrier six.
Carif returned a nice effort in the Cameron Handicap over an unsuitable distance first up and was only plain in the Hill Stakes last start.
He will benefit greatly from the step up to 2600m for this race and I’ll be expecting a sharp improvement from the horse third up.
Should get a nice run in transit from barrier two and any rain will help his chances.
Box them up in the last and see if we can finish the day on a winning note.
