Cranbourne: Race 3 (2:30pm)
No. 2 Caliper

Caliper has improved for two starts back this time and is ready to break her maiden at Cranbourne this afternoon.

The Star Witness filly finished fifth, beaten two lengths at The Valley when fresh, and she was last seen filling the minors in the midweeks at Sandown.

Fitter third-up and dropping in class, she might not be offered a better opportunity to strike.

Cranbourne: Race 4 (3pm)
No. 9 Fazzabeel

Fazzabeel was unlucky not to gain a start in Wednesday’s Victoria Derby Trial at Flemington, and there is no doubt that this is a far softer option.

The Chris Waller-trained gelding has only made one appearance at the races so far, but he kept all of his best work for late when fourth over 1500m at Bendigo.

He’ll take plenty of improvement for that effort and can begin his rise through the grades.

Cranbourne: Race 6 (4pm)
No. 2 Into Rio

Into Rio has improved for three starts back this time, and he rates as a key winning chance in the sixth at Cranbourne today.

The Zacinto gelding returned some nice efforts, particularly during his three-year-old campaign under the care of the Ellerton & Zahra stable, and he only just missed in his third start for Chris Hyland last time.

He looks to be at peak fitness for today’s race, and we can have an each-way play at around the $10 mark.

Cranbourne: Race 7 (4:30pm)
No. 12 Elidi

Elidi faces a nice drop in class at Cranbourne this afternoon, and I think that she will prove extremely difficult to beat.

The Fighting Sun mare doesn’t win out of turn, but she has also performed consistently in Saturday metro grade, and she returned a nice effort to fill the minors in a Wednesday race at Sandown two back.

She strikes this race in good order and with even luck, I can’t find a reason why she won’t be in the finish.
