2021 Doomben Mile Day Tips & Preview

There are nine quality races on the program at Doomben on Saturday, and some of Queensland’s finest gallopers will be stepping out!

With plenty of value on offer, I’ve run the rule over every contest, and you can find my complete 2021 Doomben Mile Day Tips below.

XXXX Dry Fillies & Mares No Metro Wins Handicap (1200m) – 11:47am
No. 3 Lasting Kiss

This is a rise in class, but it’s pretty hard to argue with what Lasting Kiss has done since debuting, and I think that she can make a positive transition to Saturday city company.

The Real Impact mare has recorded four wins and three second placings from her seven career starts so far, and she has won each of her last three races.

She looks to be at peak fitness for Saturday’s race and she can fight out the finish.

Springsocial.com.au BM72 Handicap (2020m) – 12:22pm
No. 4 Rapaport

Rapaport faces a rise in class, but he also puts an unbeaten record on the line at Doomben on Saturday, and he can win again.

The David Vandyke-trained gelding won on debut in New Zealand and was immediately put away, and he resumed on the Gold Coast with another nice effort.

He’ll take plenty of improvement from that effort and strike in town.

Sky Racing BM90 Handicap (2020m) – 12:58pm
No. 1 London Banker

This is a decent race, but London Banker has been nothing short of outstanding this prep, and he can record yet another win.

The Kelly Schweida-trained gelding hasn’t missed placing in six starts back this time, and has strung together three-consecutive wins leading into this contest.

He does face a rise in the weights, but I can’t find a reason why he won’t be in the finish again.

3YO Quality (1350m) – 1:33pm
No. 1 Prince Of Boom

Prince Of Boom shapes as the runner to beat in the three-year-olds feature race.

The Spirit Of Boom gelding stamped himself as a runner to follow during his short debut prep, winning his first two starts and ending his campaign with a run in Group 2 company, albeit a bridge too far.

He’ll strip fitter for a credible effort for fourth here last week and he boasts a class edge over most of these rivals.

each way
Spring Ladies Raceday 23 October Class 3 Plate (1615m) – 2:08pm
No. 3 Kubrick

He hasn’t won for nearly two years, but Kubrick has improved for two starts back this time, and I thought that this did look a nice race for him.

The Shooting To Win gelding did win some quality races earlier in his campaign, and he filled the minors in a similar contest at Eagle Farm when resuming this time, but found a few good ones a little too sharp last time out.

Fitter third-up, we can have an each-way play at around the $9 mark.

Bundaberg Rum Doomben Mile (1600m) – 2:48pm
No. 2 Ballistic Boy

The feature race in Brisbane this weekend is a good one, but I am a bit of a sicko for Ballistic Boy, and I simply have to put him on top.

Ballistic Boy has been a stable star for Chris Anderson since making his debut, and he returned to the races with an eye-catching effort to score over 1350m here a fortnight ago.

His second-up record is outstanding, he is drawn to receive a lovely run, and I am more than happy to stick with him.

Well Groomed Racing 17 September C,G&E No Metro Wins (1200m) – 3:27pm
No. 4 Blue Odyssey

This is one of the more open races on the program, and a horse like Blue Odyssey looks to have claims on winning, at a nice price ($14 at publish).

He’s been a good horse for the Nat McCall stable throughout his career, and he was only just nabbed late after taking up the running at the Sunshine Coast when fresh.

His second-up record is good, he gets some relief in the weights under Jaden Lloyd, and he can be in this for a long way.

R.M. Williams Open (1110m) – 4:07pm
No. 3 Tambo's Mate & No. 2 Tactical Advantage

You’d be forgiven for thinking that this was at least a Listed race, with the likes of Soxagon, Tactical Advantage, Tambo’s Mate and Plonka all accepting, and I am going to back a couple.

The first is Tambo’s Mate, who has been transferred to the care of Tony Gollan this prep, and whose fresh record is excellent.

He has won far better races than this, and the $6 we’re getting at publish could prove overs.

I’m also going to have an each-way play on Tactical Advantage ($14 at publish).

Tactical Advantage is yet to show his best in three starts back this time, but they have all been in far better races, and I like that he has been back to the trials since the Aurie’s Star Handicap.

best bet
Mount Franklin Class 6 Plate (1350m) – 4:43pm
No. 10 Dreamreacher

Dreamreacher has been a strong and consistent performer this prep, and he had found form around some very good gallopers, so I am more than happy to dive in at the $3.80 that is available at publish.

The Snitzel entire hasn’t finished worse than second in four starts back this time, winning at Eagle Farm in July and running the undefeated Weona Smartone to a head here a fortnight ago.

He can go one better, and I am actually going to make him my best bet on the program.
