Daily Racing Tips – Tuesday, August 3

each way
Pakenham: Race 1 (12:30pm)
No. 7 Sprites

I’m going to roll the dice on second-up maiden Sprites in the first at Pakenham this afternoon.

Sprites finished off the pace at Ballarat on debut in March and was immediately put away, but he mustered a nice turn of foot late at Ballarat when resuming this time.

I’m confident that he’ll take plenty of improvement for that hit-out and we can have an each-way play at the price.

best bet
Pakenham: Race 4 (2pm)
No. 12 Pounding

Pounding might not be offered a better opportunity to break his maiden.

The Exceed And Excel gelding has had two starts back from a spell and has finished fourth on both occasions, including the VOBIS Gold Ingot at Caulfield last time.

This is a big drop in class and he is my best bet of the day.

Pakenham: Race 8 (4pm)
No. 1 Court Deep

Court Deep hasn’t been seen at the races since February, but he looks well placed to strike fresh at Pakenham this afternoon.

The Deep Field gelding was a strong and largely consistent performer last prep, winning in BM58 company most notably and finding form around some good gallopers.

He has won at this point of his prep previously and will take beating today.

Pakenham: Race 9 (4:30pm)
No. 4 Steel Choice

The early scratching of several leading contenders including Widaad has blown this race wide open, and I think that a galloper like Steel Choice now has serious claims on winning.

Steel Choice recorded a lovely win over 1000m here when resuming and he was last seen filling the minors in BM64 company at Cranbourne.

A return to the synthetic should prove ideal and he can fight out the finish again.
