North Macedonia will contest their first ever match at a major tournament early in the morning AEST and perhaps unsurprisingly, they have opened $5.50 outsiders to beat Austria ($1.65).
They’ve been written off by nearly every man and his dog, and while winning the whole thing is almost certainly out of the question, they have clearly been good enough to get here, and I think that they can and will return some competitive performances.
Austria themselves have by no means been a powerhouse in Europe, and qualifying for major tournaments hasn’t been something they’ve owned either.
I understand why Austria have been priced as favourites, but North Macedonia are over the odds and I am going to roll the dice on an upset.
We’ll get out first look at the Dutch outfit when they take on a credible Ukraine at 5am AEST.
The Netherlands enter Euro 2020 in typically good form, winning three of their last four matches, though also drawing with Scotland.
The Ukraine have been noticeably less convincing: they’ve won their last two, but they were against minnows Cyprus and Northern Ireland, and they were winless in four matches prior.
The class difference here is quite obviously, and I think that it could be a long night at the office for the Ukraine.
Betting suggests that one of the better contests in Week 1 of Euro 2020 will materialise between Scotland and the Czech Republic tonight, and they do look extremely well matched.
The Scots have a decent record against the Czech Republic, and they have won two of the last three meetings between the nations. Couple that with their recent run of form, and the $2.80 available for them at publish looks a terrific bet.
The Czech Republic enter Euro 2020 off the back of a confidence boosting 3-1 win over Albania, but their overall lead-up form has been average at best, and they weren’t able to match it with Italy and Wales.
I’m happy to take the value on offer for Scotland.
