As just about everyone expected before the season began, the Crusaders will host the 2021 Super Rugby Aotearoa Grand Final following another impressive season.
They won six of their eight games, at one point looking borderline unstoppable before a late season stumble saw them drop two games in three weeks.
One of those defeats came against their opponents this weekend, the Chiefs, who won five of their last six to pip the Blues for second place.
Both sides will feel well rested heading into this game with the Crusaders having a Round 10 bye and the Chiefs fielding a heavily rotated side against the Blues.
It promises to be an excellent evening at Orangetheory Stadium in Christchurch, read on for our Super Rugby Aotearoa Final tips and preview
Backing the Crusaders in a Super Rugby Final is not exactly going out on a limb, especially when you consider that under the previous formats, they made 14 Grand Finals, winning 10, including the final three before the COVID pandemic.
Add in the fact they won the inaugural Super Rugby Aotearoa tournament last year which was a simple first past the post season with no Final.
I’m going to assume that their 29-6 win over the Blues in their last game was the correction they needed before this title decider and their April stumble is well and truly behind them.
Add in the fact the Chiefs have not enjoyed their trips to Christchurch in recent years, losing their last five games at Orangetheory Stadium, four of which were by double digit margins.
I’ll back the Crusaders to win comfortably as their big game experience sees them by the gallant Chiefs.
