Much to the delight of supporters of 17 other AFL clubs, reigning premiers Richmond find themselves 9th on the ladder, just outside of the top eight after Round 10.
Prior to the Tigers glorious run in 2017, the club built a reputation for finishing 9th and just missing the eight.
In fact, back in 1994, the very first season of the final eight, Richmond finished 9th which was the Tiger’s best season in a number of years and Australian Football Video released a season highlights tape to celebrate the occasion – TIGERS ON THE PROWL.

Richmond would finish in ninth place at the end of seasons 1994, 1996, 1998, 2000, 2006 and 2008.
Despite the fact the Tigers have won three out of the last four premierships and played in seven finals series since they last finished 9th, Richmond and 9th place on the ladder is up there with the ski season and Melbourne or Collingwood fans having no teeth.
It’s the stereotype that just won’t go away.
However, it’s been a fair while since the Tigers actully finished 9th, so we’ve wound the clock back to August 2008 – the last time Richmond finished a season in 9th spot on the ladder.
