Newcastle: Race 3 (1:50pm)
No. 2 Poignant

Poignant has made just one appearance at the races so far, but she looks to have some ability and can break her maiden at Newcastle today.

The Exceed And Excel filly had a handful of trials prior to her debut and raced home well to finish second, beaten half a length at Gosford earlier this month.

With improvement for that experience, she can go one better today.

Newcastle: Race 6 (3:45pm)
No. 3 Sophomore

Sophomore will take plenty of improvement into her second campaign task at Newcastle today and can return to winning form.

The So You Think mare returned some lovely efforts in decent city races last time in and won over a mile here at Newcastle most notably.

I thought that there was a lot to like about her resuming effort for third in BM64 company at Hawkesbury, and she is yet to miss placing at this point of her preparation.

Grafton: Race 5 (4:05pm)
No. 6 Hallowed Dreams

Hallowed Dreams has returned to the races in competitive form this time and can continue her rise through the grades at Grafton this afternoon.

The Matt Dunn-trained filly put the writing on the wall with a lovely effort to break her maiden here when resuming and ran home well to finish second behind Adelita Rose in Class 1 company last time.

Fitter third-up and in this small field, I can’t find a reason why she won’t be in the finish again.

Newcastle: Race 8 (4:55pm)
No. 6 Siesta Key

With early favourite Mollycoddle coming out after instead stepping out at Canterbury yesterday, I think that this looks a very winnable race for Siesta Key.

Siesta Key needed the run when she finished midfield in the Provincial Champion Qualify at Kembla Grange a few weeks ago, but her form prior to a freshen-up was good.

This is a drop in class and she is over the odds at her current price ($12 at publish).
