This is a typically open edition of the Provincial Championships Final and a horse like Animate has claims on winning at a nice price ($14 at publish).
Animate has been a decent and largely consistent performer for the Lees stable this prep and enters this race off the back of a nice effort for second in BM78 company at Warwick Farm.
I’m expecting good improvement for that hit-out and he is drawn ideally under Brenton Avdulla.
A small field will contest the Daybreak Lover Stakes in Brisbane today and I’m confident that Gotta Kiss is the one to beat.
Gotta Kiss returned some lovely efforts in decent races last time in and ended her campaign fifth in the Magic Millions 3YO Guineas.
She found competitive form around Isotope during that prep, and given that horse is a leading contender in a strong Arrowfield Sprint in Sydney today, I’m happy to stick with this horse in Brisbane.
The Arrowfield Sprint shapes as one of, if not the standout race of the day, and I’m eager to have a play on Amish Boy at a price ($19 at publish).
Amish Boy has been a model of consistency for Maher & Eustace since making his debut, and he is yet to miss placing in three starts this year, highlighted by eye-catching efforts in the Magic Millions Guineas and the Newmarket Handicap.
This is obviously a big drop in class from the latter of those races, he has been freshened and we can have an each-way bet at the quote.
All of the leading contenders in this afternoon’s Queen Elizabeth Stakes prefer a wet track and for that reason, I’m not going to change my selection – Addeybb will be hard to beat.
Addeybb was an impressive winner of both the Ranvet Stakes and this race last autumn, and he returned to the UK for some more typically impressive performances and results.
He finished a length second behind a fit Verry Elleegant when resuming this time and I am confident he can turn the tables today.
