The complexion of the Brisbane Winter Carnival has changed, and the Queensland Guineas is now contested at the beginning of the season, rather than at its previous positioning on Stradbroke Day.
The Group 2 Mile for three-year-olds headlines an exciting program at Eagle Farm that also boasts the Victory Stakes, and you can find my complete 2021 Queensland Guineas Day Tips below.
Alpendurada will take winning form into the first at Eagle Farm on Saturday and looks up to making it two in a row.
The Robert Heathcote-trained gelding has been up and racing for quite a while now, but has continued to return big performances recently, winning two of his last three.
With even luck, he’ll be in the finish again.
Bold Executive has been a model of consistency this prep and looks the runner to beat again in the second on Queensland Guineas Day.
The Top Echelon gelding hasn’t missed placing at his last four appearances, winning twice, and he was last seen finishing second behind he talented Traduce in a similar contest.
He meets that horse better at the weights this week and he can turn the tables.
So You Win can win second-up at Eagle Farm this week.
The So You Think gelding was a strong and consistent performer for the Waller stable last time in, and he returned to the races with a lovely effort to fill the minors behind Get Stuck in here a fortnight ago.
He harbours plenty of upside and under Luke Dittman, he can return to winning form.
Georgie’s Pride simply doesn’t know how to run a bad race, and she looks the one to beat again in the fourth at Eagle Farm.
The Tony Gollan-trained filly has had five starts since resuming in January, winning four times, including a couple of similar races to this one, most recently.
She’s rock-hard fit, drawn a peach, and she is my best bet on the program.
Kubrick shapes as a key winning chance in the fifth on Queensland Guineas Day.
The Shooting To Win gelding hasn’t quite returned to his career-best three-year-old form, but he has continued to race well for the Waller stable this time, and he has found form around some above-average gallopers.
He is at peak fitness for this contest and I’m happy to stick with him.
Miss Hipstar went to the paddock after finishing ninth in the Magic Millions Classic, and the Dalrello Stakes looks a lovely launchpad for her.
The Kelly Schweida-trained filly won each of her first two career starts and kept all of her best work for late when third behind Swift Witness on the Gold Coast third-up.
She clearly races well fresh and returned a lovely trial effort at Doomben a couple of weeks ago.
Sydneysider Private Eye can win the Queensland Guineas.
Private Eye has recorded five wins and a second placing from eight starts since debuting in July last year, and he won four races in succession over summer.
He needed the run when eighth in the Darby Munro first-up, but ran home well to finish second behind the talented Ellsberg last time out, and there is no horse of that ability engaged in this.
This is a strong edition of the Victory Stakes, but I’m finding it impossible to look past Trekking.
Trekking is a two-time Group 1 winner, recording his first up here in Brisbane in the 2019 Stradbroke Handicap, and he has continued to return bold efforts all over the country, adding The Goodwood to his resume last year.
He races well fresh and has the class edge in this race.
Fender was an impressive winner at Doomben when fresh and can make it two in a row in the last on Queensland Guineas Day.
The Brett Cavanough-trained gelding has been an outstanding horse for the stable throughout his career and has raced well around some excellent horses.
He has been kept up to the mark with a trial since his last effort and harbours plenty of improvement.
