2021 Golden Slipper Day Tips & Preview

We have the best day on the Australian Horse Racing Calendar to look forward to this Saturday at Rosehill.

Five Group 1 races will take place including the Rosehill Guineas, Golden Slipper, The Galaxy, The Ranvet and the George Ryder.

Our full 2021 Golden Slipper Day Tips & Preview can be found below.

Race 1: Listed Darby Munro Stakes (1200m) 12:30pm
No. 4 Odeum & No. 6 Bella Nipotina

Odeum was excellent when resuming in the March Stakes at Flemington when beaten 1.3 lengths into fourth behind So Si Bon and the older horses.

She is a filly with a huge amount of upside and will improve sharply second up.

Bella Nipotina has just one win from 15 career starts but she has been really well this prep so far and represents really good value at around $19 at time of publish.

She has been beaten less than 2.4 lengths in all three of her runs this prep and brings a fitness edge into this event.

Race 2: Group 3 Manion Cup (2400m) 1:10pm
No. 4 Sacramento

Sacramento has been a very consistent horse for the Waterhouse and Bott stable having won six of 17 so far.

He was only caught late by the very smart Mount Popa an that form has been franked with that horse winning the Mornington Cup easily last start.

Barrier 4 is perfect and Sam Clipperton can take him to the front where he will make his own luck.

Race 3: Group 3 Epona Stakes (1200m) 1:45pm
No.7 She's Ideel

She’s Ideel has returned two nice efforts at group level so far this prep and is ready to peak at her third run.

She was placed in the Group 2 Millie Fox behind Subpoenaed and again behind Missybeel in the Group 3 Aspiration.

The heavy track shouldn’t be an issue and barrier two is perfect in the Epona Stakes.

Race 4: Group 1 Ranvet Stakes (2000m) 2:25pm
No. 1 Addeybb

The Group 1 Ranvet Stakes has changed shape a little bit from last week but it is still dominated by two in betting.

It’s extremely hard to get a feel for Addeybb without seeing him in the flesh so I’ll be keen to see the horse parade.

It’s safe to say that both these horses have gone to another level since they met this time last year, where Addeybb had Verry Elleegant’s measure in both the Ranvet and Queen Elizabeth Stakes.

It’s hard to ignore that head to head record and although Verry Elleegant will have the fitness edge, the overseas visitor will be right on the pace heading around the turn which is where I would rather be than attempting to make up ground on the bog track.

Race 5: Group 1 Rosehill Guineas (2000m) 3:05pm
No. 3 Mo'unga

Mo’unga has returned two impressive placings from two starts so far this prep including an unlucky second behind Lion’s Roar in the Randwick Guineas last start.

Tommy Berry decided to pull the colt to the outside at a vital stage in the straight and he worked home really well to the line.

Had the star hoop decided to stay on the inside, the seas would have parted and he would have won the race.

He has a win on the heavy way back in June last year on the Gold Coast and this is his first go beyond 1600m but he looks the obvious choice in a Rosehill Guineas field full of quality young horses.

Race 6: Group 1 George Ryder Stakes (1500m) 3:45pm
No. 11 Funstar

The Group 1 Chipping Norton Stakes is the form line that I am keen on leading into the George Ryder.

Funstar was beaten only half a length in that race behind Verry Elleegant and she should be ready to peak at her third run this prep.

She has four starts on the heavy track for two wins including the Group 2 Phar Lap Stakes when she beat home Probabeel.

Tommy Berry will steer from barrier one.

Race 7: Group 1 Golden Slipper Stakes (1200m) 4:30pm
No. 2 Profiteer

Profiteer is a very green, young colt who he did plenty wrong in the early stages of the Todman Stakes at Randwick, ultimately costing him the race late.

It is hard to get his Inglis Millennium win out of my head, a race in which he dominated his rivals to score by over five lengths.

He is clearly a colt with an enormous amount of ability and although, like many in this race, he is unproven on the heavy track, he will be on the speed with not many to go around heading around the turn.

He has drawn to get a gun run from barrier five in the Golden Slipper 2021 with the in form Hugh Bowman on top.

Race 8: Group 1 The Galaxy (1100m) 5:10pm
No. 13 Wild Ruler & No. 12 Tailleur

I’m with two right down the bottom of the weights in the Group 1 The Galaxy.

Wild Ruler could not have been anymore impressive when winning first up against his own age group in the Listed Fireball Stakes.

He is yet to have a run on the heavy but the step up in trip suits as does barrier 9 as he will roll forward.

Tailleur is a very progressive mare who has now managed six wins from eight career starts including back to back wins so far this prep.

Rachel King is booked to ride with just 51kg!

Race 9: Group 3 Birthday Card Stakes (1900m) 5:45pm
Box Trifecta 1/2/4/12

There are plenty of winning chances in the last of the day.

Box these up and hope for the best!
