Ballarat: Race 2 (1:55pm AEDT)
No. 2 Fire Wheel

Fire Wheel has returned two nice efforts since debuting and is ready to win at Ballarat today.

The Unencumbered gelding ran less than half a length behind Ozone on debut at Echuca on New Year’s Eve, and he returned from a freshen-up to finish a nose second at Bendigo a fortnight ago.

With improvement, he is primed to strike.

Ballarat: Race 4 (3:05pm AEDT)
No. 7 Dundeel Star

Dundeel Star has improved for two starts back looms as a winning chance at Ballarat this afternoon, at a nice price ($10 at publish).

The Dundeel filly finished midfield at Donald on debut last June and returned a similar effort at Geelong when resuming this time.

She was far better when second behind Alverio at Kyneton last time out and any improvement on that effort would see her into the finish of this.

Ballarat: Race 7 (4:50pm AEDT)
No. 4 Dominus

Dominus ran second in what was probably a better race at Sandown when resuming this time and he looks the runner to beat in Race 7 at Ballarat today.

The Iffraaj gelding returned some nice efforts and found form around some decent runners last time in, and his resuming effort suggested that another win isn’t far away.

He gets that opportunity in what looks to be an ideal race today.

Ballarat: Race 8 (5:20pm AEDT)
No. 2 Savvy Lad

Savvy Lad hasn’t been seen at the races since October, but he has a class edge over most of these rivals and can make a winning return.

The Savabeel gelding typically stepped out in better races than this one last prep, and filled the minors behind Mystery Shot over 1400m at Caulfield most notably.

He has been competitive first-up previously and I’m happy to be with him today.
