A-League MW8 Tips & Preview

A-League MW8 Tips & Preview

There are two types of people in this world:

Those who love the A-League

And those who don’t know it yet.

More thrills, more spills, more upsets, more comebacks – the A-League provides plenty.

Matchweek 8 brings us five big games on the weekend followed by the two-midweek fixtures on Tuesday and Wednesday night.

Can we make it a winning one for the punters?

Find out in our tips and preview.

MACARTHUR FC VS ADELAIDE UNITED
Macarthur FC @ $2.05

The A-League’s new kids on the block have played some very entertaining football of late and they’ll be keen to start the weekend with a win over Adelaide United.

Macarthur was brilliant in their hit-and-run mission in Brisbane on Tuesday night, with a strong 2-0 win over the Roar resulting in the club taking their first three-points outside of New South Wales.

They will be desperate to get their first full three-points on their home ground at Campbeltown and Friday nights clash against the Reds presents a perfect opportunity to do just that.

Adelaide United have lost three out of their past four matches and have clearly hit a rough patch in form.

There’s nothing like a big win on the road to give your season a shot in the arm, but I simply can’t see it happening and happy to back Macarthur to get their first win at home.

WELLINGTON PHOENIX VS CENTRAL COAST MARINERS
Central Coast Mariners @ $3.25

For some strange reason, the bookies keep writing off the Central Coast Mariners.

At time of publishing the Mariners are the $3.25 underdog going into this Sunday’s game in Wollongong against the Nix ($2.10) who have only the 1 victory and are 11th on the table.

I’ve never been so confident in placing a head to head underdog bet than this match.

Wellington continues to lose and the top-of-the-table Central Coast Mariners just know how to win.

The Nix looked a bit plain against Sydney FC on Monday night and quite frankly, should not be the favourite against the team that is currently top of the league.

They play with absolute belief and confidence, coming back from 2-1 down to win 3-2 against Western United in an all-time A-League classic.

Quite frankly, the Mariners could be 3-0 at half-time in this clash and I’d still back them to take the full three points.

BRISBANE ROAR VS NEWCASTLE JETS
Brisbane Roar @ $2

Brought back to earth by Macarthur on Tuesday night, you would expect the Brisbane Roar to resume normal programming (season 2021 version) as they host the Newcastle Jets at Redcliffe.

However, the Jets shouldn’t be underestimated, having not lost in their past three matches and they’ll take plenty of confidence after their 1-0 win over Melbourne City last Sunday.

Can they back it up against the Roar?

Probably not.

Perhaps Tuesday night was the loss Brisbane Roar had to have, and Warren Moon and his men will be able to re-jig their game plan as Macarthur got the better of them.

Fair to say, the same team that thrashed Victory 5-2 the previous Saturday and is sitting second on the table had an off-night.

Expect the Roar to bounce back with a win over the Jets in this one.
