A-League MW7 Tips & Preview

A-League MW7 Tips & Preview

Matchweek 7 of the A-League provides us with eight big games from Friday – Wednesday.

Australia’s domestic football competition continues to delight with thrills, spills and plenty of upsets.

While it’s fun to watch, it’s becoming a nightmare when it comes to backing a winner.

Can we make MW7 a winning one for the punters?

Read on in our tips and preview. 👇

ADELAIDE UNITED VS PERTH GLORY
Adelaide United @ $2.40

If you want a dictionary definition of a game that’s hard to tip – this is it.

Matchweek 7 kicks off with a game between two evenly matched sides in Adelaide United and the Perth Glory.

I can’t split them, but then again, I’m paid to write this preview and give a tip so I’m going to have to aren’t I?

Adelaide is coming off a tough day at the office away in Brisbane with a 3-1 loss to their name, and Perth managed to get back on the winner’s list with a convincing 3-1 win over Melbourne City last weekend.

The combination of having Diego Castro back in the team along with Bruno Fornaroli can be a dangerous one, especially if the Glory gets on a roll.

If the match turns out to be like the 5-3 shoot-out played back on January 20th, then this should be a beauty.

For what it’s worth, Adelaide has been very much a good one week, bad the next kind of team this season, current trends suggest this is a week where they are due to be good – I’ll back the Reds at home.

BRISBANE ROAR VS MELBOURNE VICTORY
HT/FT Brisbane Roar / Brisbane Roar @ $3.50

It’s early in their journey, but playing the Brisbane Roar at Dolphins Stadium is becoming one of the scariest prospects for visiting A-League teams.

Melbourne Victory makes the trip to Redcliffe this Saturday and is very much in the firing line, with the Roar the red-hot favourites ($2.15 at time of publish) going into this match.

If the opening game of the round is the hardest to tip, then this one is the easiest.

Brisbane Roar is looking good, playing great football and Warren Moon’s men are proving themselves as the team to beat this season.

Expect another clinic from Dylan Wenzell-Halls, who scored 2 out of the Roar’s 3 goals in their 3-1 win over Adelaide Utd last Saturday.

The Victory was lucky to split the points last week against Western United in their 0-0, and bar a five-minute flurry which saw Jake Brimmer score two goals in a number of minutes to win the game against Perth Glory on Australia Day, the boys in blue look flat.

Grant Brebner needs to pull a rabbit out of his hat, and Marco Rojas desperately needs to find some form.

Roar will do it easily.

MACARTHUR FC VS WESTERN SYDNEY WANDERERS
Draw @ $3.35

Another flavour of Sydney Derby is on the cards – this one with a more western suburbs texture as the new kids on the block Macartur hosts the Wanderers at Campbelltown Stadium.

This will be the second-ever meeting between these two clubs with Macarthur famously beating the Wanderers 1-0 in their very first A-League hitout at Bankwest Stadium on December 30th.

There have been some serious issues with Western Sydney’s goal scoring so far this season, and they’ve had a good week to contemplate on their missed opportunities in their 1-0 draw against the Newcastle Jets last week.

Hosting another “home” derby for consecutive weeks, Macarthur would love the opportunity to redeem themselves after the 3-0 loss to Sydney FC last weekend.

The incentive of laying claim to never losing to the Wanderers would also be something Macarthur fans would love to boast about early in the clubs history.

I wouldn’t be surprised if both teams split the points, and I’ll back the draw in this one.

NEWCASTLE JETS VS MELBOURNE CITY
Newcastle Jets @ $2.85

An interesting match on our hands here with the Newcastle Jets hosting Melbourne City this Sunday afternoon.

The Jets have been able to put their off-field woes aside and as things start to settle at the club, they’ve begun to play some decent football splitting the points last week against the Wanderers and breaking through for their first win against the Nix the week previous.

Newcastle was clearly the best team on the pitch last week and will rue their missed opportunities to take all three points.

Melbourne City will go into this match filthy after blowing a 2-0 deficit 30 minutes into their game against the Mariners, only to go down 3-2 in Gosford on Wednesday night.

it was the first time in 30 games that Melbourne City had failed to win after a 2-0 lead.

City in self-destruct mode in that game was not a pretty sight.

They will go in as favourites to win this match, but it’s very hard to forgive them after that performance.

If there’s going to be a game to back the Jets this year – this is the one.

CENTRAL COAST MARINERS VS WESTERN UNITED
Under 2.5 Goals @ $2.10

The top-of-the-table Central Coast Mariners host Western United this Sunday in Gosford and it should be a beauty.

You can’t help but be thoroughly impressed by the Mariners so far this season.

Their come-from-behind win against Melbourne City on Wednesday night will go down as one of the clubs finest.

The Mariners were able to rebound from 2-0 down 30 minutes into the match to snatch the full three points thanks to Danny De Silva’s match-winning goal 10 minutes before the full-time whistle.

Central Coast is brimming with confidence.

Big wins over Melbourne City and Sydney FC so far this season, sitting on top after 7 rounds, last seasons wooden spooners have plenty going for them.

Can Western United put them back in their place?

They most certainly had their chances over Melbourne Victory last week and would love nothing better than to kick-off their little tour of NSW.

I’m expecting a thriller, but not necessarily a shoot-out.

Backing Under 2.5 in this one.

SYDNEY FC VS WELLINGTON PHOENIX
HT / FT Draw/Sydney FC @ $4.50

Sydney FC will go into Monday night’s game against the Phoenix and deservedly so.

The Sky Blues could do no wrong as they easily accounted for Macarthur last week to the tune of 3-0.

Steve Corica and his men will take plenty of confidence going into this match as will the Nix who defeated the top-of-the-table Mariners in Gosford 2-1 last weekend.

While it was impressive that the Nix got the points over the Mariners, I just can’t see how they will be able to do it two weeks on the trot against quality opposition.

To make it interesting, I’ve gone with a half-time/full-time double with the scores to be level at half-time and Sydney FC to cruise to victory in the second half.

Brisbane Roar v Macarthur FC
HT/FT Roar / Roar @ $3.60

If their performances on the weekend were anything to go by, the second up game for Matchweek 7 for both the Brisbane Roar and Macarthur should be a beauty.

Brisbane Roar is looking very good and a force to be reckoned with after Warren Moon’s boys did an absolute number on Melbourne Victory beating them 5-2 at home.

Macarthur and the Wanderers fought out a highly entertaining draw.

This game will be Macarthurs first-ever time away from New South Wales, and given the new kids on the block are yet to even win a match at their own home ground – will they be able to snatch one away? The answer is: No.

Playing the Brisbane Roar at their new home of Dolphin Stadium in Redcliffe is now one of the scariest road trips in the A-League.

Scott McDonald, Riku Danzaki and Dylan Wenzel-Halls put on a clinic against a hapless Victory, and while Macarthur stack up as better opposition I wouldn’t be surprised if they did it again.

The Roar to lead at half-time/full-time market was very good to me on Saturday, I can expect them to back it up again this Tuesday night and perhaps find themselves top of the league at the end of the round.

Western Sydney Wanderers v Melbourne Victory
Wanderers @ $2.25

After coming off the most A-League of A-League matches ever played on Saturday night, Western Sydney Wanderers have a free-hit against the Melbourne Victory this Wednesday night.

Not sure what I’m on about?

This passage of play sums up everything that is peak A-League:

After a highly entertaining content, the Wanderers split the points with Macarthur and will take that well-earnt split point with plenty of confidence heading into this game.

The Wanderers are now five games unbeaten and with Victory coming off a 5-2 loss to Brisbane Roar at Dolphins Stadium on Saturday, they should fancy themselves to take the full three-points.

I simply cannot make a case for Melbourne Victory and expect the Wanderers to get it done easily.
