Jervis has only made one appearance at the races so far, but I’m confident that he’ll enjoy big improvement for that experience, and he can break his maiden at Scone today.
The Vancouver gelding showed ability at the trials prior to making his debut and ran home fairly to finish fifth, around three lengths behind Titan Star at Gosford a couple of weeks ago.
This looks an easier race, and he can fight out the finish.
Raging Pole has returned some nice efforts in town this prep and looks a winning chance in the last at Eagle Farm today, at a nice price ($7.50 at publish).
Raging Pole took a few to find his best form when resuming, but charged in to salute at Ipswich in early December.
His runs have since been spaced, and there was a lot to like about his performance for second behind Snowzone at Doomben last time out.
Fighter probably couldn’t have gone closer without winning since debuting, and he can get the monkey off his back at Pakenham this evening.
The Lord Kanaloa gelding has finished second at each of his four competitive appearances so far, and charged home to only just miss at The Valley last time out.
He looks to be at peak fitness for this contest and is my best bet of the day.
Beast is another horse who can break his maiden at just his second career start at Pakenham tonight.
Beast clearly needed his debut run to tune up, but there was still a lot to like about the performance and fifth placing behind I’m Thunderstruck at Caulfield.
Noel Callow is a positive booking for this horse and I think he’ll prove tough to beat.
