Daily Racing Tips – Saturday, January 2

Ascot: Race 2 (3:04pm AEDT)
No. 3 Keep Your Feet

Keep Your Feet was unlucky not to score first-up a fortnight ago where she clocked the fastest final 200m split under William Pike.

The ‘Wizard’ is booked to ride again on Saturday, and so long as he can find cover nice and early from the wide draw, he should come close to making amends aboard this smart young three-year-old.

He won well second-up last prep and I’m expecting Pike to settle much closer in transit this time around.

Eagle Farm: Race 7 (4:08pm AEDT)
No. 13 Gotta Kiss

Gotta Kiss just met one better in the always classy Isotope last time out and comes into this race fresh and ready to fire following a trial between runs.

She carried 60kg to a strong first-up fourth on the Sunshine Coast back in November and looks set to peak third-up on Saturday carrying just 55kg.

Her recent form lines read well for this contest and the 1400m doesn’t appear to be any issue.

Caulfield: Race 8 (4:20pm AEDT)
No. 9 Sword Of Mercy

Sword Of Mercy won by nearly two lengths first-up at Flemington over a touch shorter and she is more than capable of repeating that performance down in the weights.

The Sebring mare tends to do her best racing second-up where she’s scored twice in the past, while she also looks capable of overcoming the wide draw just like she did a fortnight ago.

She’s only going to improve on that run and the added experience of Jamie Kah in the saddle might see her make it a double.

No. 12 Hilo

Hilo is an excellent value bet in The Buffering as he looks to kick off his stint up in Queensland with a win.

The son of Lonhro almost never runs a bad race and I couldn’t have been more impressed with his runner-up performance last start at Randwick over the 1400m.

His recent form is impossible to fault and the potential of some rain only boosts his chances.
