A-League MW3 Tips & Preview

The A-League has gotten off to a terrific start and it’s very much a matter of quality over quantity this weekend with only the two fixtures on offer.

There’s plenty to look forward to in all three matches such as Carl Robinson returning to Newcastle and a fascinating contest between the new kids on the block Macarthur taking on the Nix .

It’s still early days in the 2020-21 season but anything and everything can happen, this is the A-League after all.

Can we make it a winning one?

We’ve found our best bets in our tips and preview.

*** PLEASE NOTE THE BRISBANE ROAR v MELBOURNE VICTORY FIXTURE HAS BEEN POSTPONED

NEWCASTLE JETS vs WESTERN SYDNEY WANDERERS
Western Sydney @ $2.40

It has been a horrible week for the Newcastle Jets.

Along with the governing body stepping in to revoke the licence of the club’s owner along with their disappointing start to the season coming off a 1-0 loss to the Mariners on New Year’s Eve.

While it may only be Matchweek 3 of the A-League but many pundits already have them penciled in for the wooden spoon.

The Jets clash this Friday night at home against the Wanderers has plenty of spice, even without the off-field drama given the Jets former coach Carl Robinson and winger Bernie Ibini now call Bankwest Stadium home.

Western Sydney is coming off a loss to the A-League’s newest side – Macarthur but would consider themselves unlucky to not get one through the keeper.

Recently, the Newcastle Jets have dominated in their fixtures against the Wanderers, having won four of their last five meetings and are currently unbeaten in the last eight games between the two sides.

However, these statistics while impressive shouldn’t come into play when looking to back a winner.

The Wanderers go into this clash the favourites and if they are not going to make the most of a demoralised Jets side to get their season started then there is real cause for concern.

MACARTHUR FC vs WELLINGTON PHOENIX
HT/FT Macarthur FC/Macarthur FC@ $3.90

Two games into their history and the new boys on the A-League scene, Macarthur FC have one win and one loss while getting the best of everything, from a cracking 1-0 win over the Wanderers and then going down to “League leaders Central Coast Mariners” (screenshot that phrase) 2-0.

The Nix went down to Sydney FC 1-2 at their new home of Wollongong in a highly entertaining contest and will most certainly be keen to steady themselves against the new kids on the block this Saturday in Campbelltown.

Given there’s no history between the two teams, it’s hard to get a read of.

I for one, think that Macarthur will be pumped to get a win on their home ground for the very first time and there’s plenty of good value in having them score a goal in each half and take the full three points.
