The Listed Sunshine Coast Cup headlines a quality nine-race program north of Brisbane on Saturday and some of the state’s best horses will go hoof-to-hoof with a classy contingent of interstate raiders.
You can find a preview of every race and all my 2021 Sunshine Coast Cup Day tips below.
Lyrical Girl will resume in the first on Sunshine Coast Cup Day and perhaps unsurprisingly, is a $1.65 favourite.
She probably just wins, but she is far too short for me at that price and I am happy to wait until Race 2.
Snitzari was scratched from a midweek race at Gosford to run here and I think that it would prove to be the correct decision.
The Snitzel filly stamped herself as one to watch during her debut prep and returned for an easy win in Class 2 company at Muswellbrook.
This is obviously harder, but she boasts plenty of upside and can continue her rise through the grades.
Glorious Ruby has only made one appearance at the races so far, but she looks to have plenty of ability, and she can break her maiden in this lucrative 2YO race.
The daughter of Your Song debuted at the Sunshine Coast on January 9th and finished second behind Swift Witness, and while she was well beaten by that horse, she headed a rather talented field.
With improvement for that experience, I think she’ll take a power of beating here.
Platinum Euros will take winning form into this race and looks up to making it two in a row.
The Nat McCall-trained gelding is yet to run a bad race, and he has recorded three wins and a second placing from just five career starts.
He was utterly dominant over 1000m here last time out and he is another that can continue his rise through the grades.
He hasn’t shown his best form in three starts back from a spell, but I consider this to be a substantial drop in class for Orcein, and I think that he is over the odds at his current price ($14 at publish).
Orcein has returned plenty of good efforts and results throughout his racing career and did finish fourth in a BM78 race in Sydney two starts back.
A mile is his pet trip, he gets into this well under the conditions and I am more than happy to roll the dice at the price.
Pull Anchor is a justifiable favourite and does look the runner to beat again, but I am going to take him on with the ever-improving Kateru.
Kateru won his first start for Chris Anderson early last month, and while he didn’t make much of an impact stepping up to city grade second and third-up, his last-start effort for third at Eagle Farm suggested he is starting to find the right condition.
He will need some luck from the wide draw, but the booking of Larry Cassidy is positive, and the horse should get every chance to perform on the big Sunshine Coast track.
Divulge looks to be an above-average galloper and can record another win at the Sunshine Coast on Saturday.
Divulge stamped himself as a runner to follow when finishing a close second on debut at Ipswich and simply put, put paid to his rivals at Doomben last time out, winning by more than three lengths.
He harbours a lot more upside and this looks a great opportunity for him to make the transition into Saturday company.
This looks to be a pretty open edition of the feature race and I’m going to go slightly wider by backing Sambro each way.
Sambro is another horse that certainly hasn’t been at his best in Sydney this prep and finished down the order in the Magic Millions Cup last time out, but this is a substantial drop in class and in my opinion, the perfect black type race for him.
He has typically raced well north of the border and we can have a genuine each-way play at the price ($14 at publish).
Tambo’s Mate is far better than his two most-recent results suggest, and I am happy to stick with him ahead of the last on Sunshine Coast Cup Day.
The Mossman gelding is a multiple black type winner and resumed this time for a credible third over this course and distance before finishing fourth, beaten four lengths by Hard Empire in the Group 3 George Moore Stakes most notably.
He is rock-hard fit for this assignment, is drawn a peach and I like that he’s a month between runs.
