2020 Hong Kong International Races Tips & Preview

World racing’s focus will be on Sha Tin on Sunday for the 2020 Hong Kong International Races!

COVID has meant that some stables and connections have elected not to send horses to Hong Kong to contest one of the four Group 1 features on the ten-race program this year, but plenty still have, and we are set for some terrific betting races!

I’ve run the rule over the lot, and you can find all of my 2020 Hong Kong International Races tips below.

Snow Fairy Handicap (1200m) – 3:25pm AEDT
No. 6 Master Montaro

Master Montaro has been seen at the races since May and will be making his Hong Kong debut, but trained by David Hayes is a big bonus, so too is ridden by Zac Purton.

Master Montaro made just two appearances in Australia during his debut prep and couldn’t have been more impressive, winning by close to four lengths at Pakenham and backing that up with a three-length triumph in BM70 company at Geelong.

I can’t wait to see what he does here.

Able Friend Handicap (1400m) – 3:55pm AEDT
No. 2 Nordic Warrior

This shapes as a pretty tough race to analyse and there are a host of winning chances.

One of those is Nordic Warrior, who is a couple of months between runs.

The Dutch Art gelding needed the run when he finished seven lengths off the winner at Happy Valley off a freshen-up, but was last seen filling the minors at this track and distance.

He has been freshened again, but he is drawn to receive a lovely run from barrier 6, with Chad Schofield confirmed to ride.

Flintshire Handicap (1800m) – 4:25pm AEDT
No. 10 Beauty Angel

Beauty Angel has been flying this preparation, and I can’t find a reason why he won’t be in the finish again on Sunday.

The Dark Angel gelding was an easy winner at this track and distance in each of his first two starts back from a spell, and produced a tough effort under Joao Moreira to win again last time out.

He looks to beat at peak fitness for this race, and while he does face a small rise in the weights, he’ll be given every opportunity from barrier 1 with Zac Purton aboard.

Group 1 Hong Kong Vase (2400m) – 5pm AEDT
No. 1 Exultant

The day’s first Group 1 race will see seven stayers contest the Hong Kong Vase.

I’ve put the local Exultant on top, but you can find our full race preview and complete 2020 Hong Kong Vase Tips RIGHT HERE.

Group 1 Hong Kong Sprint (1200m) – 5:40pm AEDT
No. 1 Classique Legend

Just can’t wait to see Classique Legend in action in Hong Kong for the first time!

I’ve put him on top, but you can find our full race preview and complete 2020 Hong Kong Sprint Tips RIGHT HERE.

Highland Reel Handicap (1400m) – 6:15pm AEDT
No. 1 Heza Beauty

He has been charged with carrying a decent topweight, but Heza Beauty has been excellent this preparation, and he can win the sixth at Sha Tin on Sunday.

The son of Darci Brahm tuned up with a decent effort for second here in early October before winning under the same conditions second-up a fortnight later.

He has had two starts since that effort, a credible second behind E Star and a comfortable win three weeks ago.

He is rock-hard fit and needs only even luck in running to be in the finish again.

Group 1 Hong Kong Mile (1600m) – 6:50pm AEDT
No. 2 Golden Sixty

The Hong Kong Mile is always a quality contest and tends to draw plenty of the best milers from every corner of the globe.

I’ve put Golden Sixty on top, with Beauty Generation the main danger, but you can find a full race preview and our complete 2020 Hong Kong Mile Tips RIGHT HERE.

Group 1 Hong Kong Cup (2000m) – 7:30pm AEDT
No. 7 Magical

The day’s final Group 1 feature has drawn some truly outstanding horses, including the Aidan O’Brien-trained Magical, who I have put on top.

You can find a full race preview and our complete 2020 Hong Kong Cup Tips RIGHT HERE.

Lord Kanaloa Handicap (1200m) – 8:10pm AEDT
No. 3 Winning Dreamer

Winning Dreamer has won each of his last five starts including three back from a spell, and it would take a braver man than me to tip against him in the penultimate at Sha Tin on Sunday.

The Deep Field gelding understandably jumped favourite at his most recent appearance and simply never appeared in doubt, winning by close to two lengths.

He has options in running from the rails draw and I really cannot find a reason why he won’t be in the finish again.

Maurice Handicap (1600m) – 8:50pm AEDT
No. 14 Vitralite

Vitralite hasn’t been seen at the races since June, but he typically races well fresh and gets into this race extremely well under the conditions.

The Moohaajim gelding contested just one race during his final prep in the UK, a decent effort for second over 1412m at Newcastle.

He’ll require some luck, but with only 51.5kgs in tow, he’ll be hard to hold out.
