Following a dominant performance from New South Wales in Game 2, the State of Origin Series is alive, and we are set for an enormous decider at Brisbane’s Suncorp Stadium on Wednesday!
The Maroons proved once again that they can never be written off in Game 1, but they clearly missed the likes of Christian Welch and AJ Brimson in Game 2, while Cameron Munster’s early concussion also did not help their cause.
With everything on the line in Game 3, the Blues arrive in Brisbane as clear favourites to win, but the home side will be quietly confident of causing an upset in front of their parochial home crowd.
As always, you can find a preview of the game and our complete State of Origin 3 tips below.
Head to Head State of Origin Betting
Last week, New South Wales returned a performance that was far closer to what everyone expected of them in Game 1, and they have ultimately forced a decider in Brisbane.
The decision to move Cody Walker into the starting halves proved a masterstroke, while his partner Nathan Cleary returned what was easily his best performance in a blue jersey to date.
For Queensland, an inability to adapt to the immediate loss of Cameron Munster was evident, but it was also quite clear that the Blues had learned plenty of lessons, and if the Maroons are to bounce back and win the series, they too will need to do that.
Holes in their defence were everywhere and the likes of Damien Cook and Daniel Tupou made them pay, while their usually sturdy forward pack also didn’t allow for us much ‘go forward’ as was required.
Understandably, the Blues ($1.45) will start Game 3 as resounding favourites in State of Origin betting, with plenty of value on offer for the Queensland fans ($2.90).
The line has been set at just 6.5 points, and while I’m confident that Queensland will return a more spirited performance this time around, I think they’ll been outclassed late in the picture.
Tip:
Back the Blues to Cover the Line (-6.5) @ $2
State of Origin Try Scorer Betting
We had something of a return on our Try Scorer bets in State of Origin Game 2 – Jack Wighton crashed over for the game’s fifth try at odds of $3, and I am again confident that the reigning Dally M medallist will be instrumental for the Blues in Game 3.
Josh Addo-Carr has probably been the player of the series so far and I am also going to have something on him, while for the Maroons, I’m going to hold firm with Dane Gagai, who will need to star if Queensland are any hope in this contest.
Tips:
Back Josh Addo-Carr to score the first try @ $7
Back Jack Wighton to score a try at any time @ $2.70
Back Dane Gagai to score the first try @ $15
Back Dane Gagai to score a try at any time @ $3.20
State of Origin Man of The Match Betting
James Tedesco returned a strong performance in Game 2, his first as New South Wales captain, but he was ultimately pipped by halfback Nathan Cleary for Man of the Match honours.
Unsurprisingly, those players occupy the top two lines of State of Origin Man of the Match betting again at $6 and $7 respectively, while our tip for Game 1, Damien Cook, occupies the third line of betting at $9.
I am confident that the Blues will win State of Origin Game 3 and for that reason, I’m going to look to back a New South Welshman again – Tedesco.
Teddy was uncharacteristically quite in Adelaide, but took leadership in his stride last week, and typically plays well in Queensland. He is a fitting favourite, and I am happy to stick with him.
Tip:
Back James Tedesco to be named Man of the Match @ $6
