2020 Keith Noud Quality Day Tips & Preview

Black type racing returns to Brisbane on Saturday and a talent-rich edition of the Keith Noud Quality headlines the nine-race program at Doomben.

I’ve had a look into the form of every horse confirmed to start at Doomben on Saturday, and you can find my Keith Noud Quality Day tips below.

each way
Madame Wu 2YO Handicap (1110m) – 1:13pm AEDT
No. 4 Sherwood Prince

Sherwood Prince is the most experienced runner going around in the first at Doomben on Saturday and at $13, I’m keen to have an each-way play.

The Better Than Ready colt filled the minors in the Pat O’Shea at Toowoomba on debut, finishing a length and a half fifth at Doomben before finishing a nose second at Rockhampton last time out.

He’ll take further improvement into this race and is over the odds at his current prince.

RQ Naidoc Celebration Race Open Handicap (2200m) – 1:48pm AEDT
No. 3 He Runs Away

He Runs Away has found peak condition and strikes another winnable race on Keith Noud Quality Day.

The Heliostatic gelding did take a few to get going earlier this prep, but recorded consecutive Saturday wins here in Brisbane before running third in a tougher race at Rosehill last time out.

Back up north suits, he’s drawn well and can fight out the finish.

Chu The Phat BM72 Handicap (1350m) – 2:23pm AEDT
No. 6 Hard Labour

Hard Labour simply doesn’t know how to run a bad race, and she can record another win in Brisbane on Saturday.

The All Too Hard mare broke her maiden on the Gold Coast in May and was immediately put away, and she has been utterly dominant in her two starts back from a spell this time in.

This is easily the toughest race that she has contested, but she boasts plenty of upside and can win again.

each way
The Sports Hub 3YO C&G Handicap (1200m) – 2:58pm AEDT
No. 6 Better Lad

This shapes as a decent race and Better Lad rates as a key winning chance, at a nice price ($9 at publish).

The Better Than Ready gelding broke his maiden with ease when resuming on the Sunshine Coast, finishing down the order behind Batangas Entry here at Doomben two back before filling the minors in a similar race here last time.

He again lines up alongside that two horses that beat him last time out, but I think he’ll improve for that effort and will be tough to beat.

best bet
Duporth Tavern 3YO Fillies Handicap (1200m) – 3:27pm AEDT
No. 2 Dusty Tycoon

Dusty Tycoon has opened a clear and justifiable favourite in Race 5 at Doomben and is ready to win.

The Written Tycoon filly has recorded two wins and as many placings from just six career starts, and charged home to finish a half-length second behind Paredo when resuming here a few weeks ago.

With the improvement from that effort, from the good draw and a relief in the weights, she is my best bet on the program.

CASA CIBO Class 3 Plate (1050m) – 4:17pm AEDT
No. 4 Hidden Hail

Hidden Hail has a fitness edge over several of his key rivals in this race and looks tough to beat again.

The Hidden Dragon gelding ran second at the Sunshine Coast when resuming, breaking his maiden at Ipswich second-up and continuing his rise through the grades in Class 2 company last time.

This is obviously tougher again, but he harbours more improvement and I do think that it looks a great opportunity for him to strike on a Saturday.

Beach House BM80 Handicap (1615m) – 4:57pm AEDT
No. 8 Prospectus

Prospectus has been a strong and consistent performer this time and can record another win in Race 7 at Doomben on Saturday.

The Chris Waller-trained gelding hasn’t finished worse than second at his last six starts, beating home a smart field over a mile at Eagle Farm three back and finishing a nose second at his last two appearances.

He’s rock-hard fit, gets in well under the conditions of the race and will take beating.

Bottle-O Class 6 Handicap (1110m) – 5:33pm AEDT
No. 7 Niedorp

Niedorp has a class edge over these rivals and will take beating again on Saturday.

The Not A Single Doubt mare was a typically strong performer last time in, and picked up where she left off when a near three-length winner at this track and distance when resuming.

She’ll only improve for that effort, and she is another horse whom I simply cannot find a reason to be against this week.

each way
Listed Keith Noud Quality (1200m) – 6:15pm AEDT
No. 3 Scallopini

Typically, the Keith Noud Quality is a wide-open contest this year and at publish, we’re faced with $6 the field.

Scallopini hasn’t been seen at the races since winter, but he tends to fly fresh and is up to winning this race, at a price ($13 at publish).

The Snitzel gelding has recorded nine wins and ten minors from his twenty-three career starts so far, and resumed last time in win the Listed Hinkler Handicap; placing in two other Listed races before returning to the paddock.

He’s had the benefit of a nice trial in the lead-up to his return and he is over the odds at his current price.
