Every. Single. Race. Is. A. Group. Race.
This is the pinnacle of horse racing. The crescendo of spring racing. The ultimate feast of punting.
Our 2020 Derby Day Tips & Preview can be viewed here.
The Group 1 Neds Caulfield Guineas may very well be the form line to follow into next year and beyond but I’m happy to back one that was not in that race here.
Embolism put the writing on the wall with an impressive three length win at this distance last start.
It was only a benchmark 70 but he showed he has plenty of potential and this race is not an afterthought like it may be for others at the top of the weights.
Victoria Quay was last rounding the turn at Morphettville last time out but she rocketed home to just miss.
The daughter of Dundeel looks a filly that will stay all day so the step up in distance at this stage in her prep for the Wakeful Stakes is ideal.
The form coming out of the Schillaci has been very strong and Octane was not beaten far in that race.
The son of I Am Invincible has won seven of his 15 career starts and he does look really well placed in this event but he is too short.
Box four up in a trifecta and hope for the best.
Attorney is only a lightly raced six year old gelding who has managed four wins from 14 career race starts.
Battled to the line really well in the St Leger at Randwick last start and will be much better suited to Flemington.
Admire Robson is another very lightly raced seven year old with plenty of potential.
He comes into the Lexus Hotham Stakes very fresh, having just the two runs so far this prep but has drawn well in barrier four.
Three year old fillies have a fantastic record in this race and although it is the Thousand Guineas winner that will start favourite, Forbidden Love represents great value at around the $20 mark in Empire Rose Stakes betting.
I loved the way she quickened when she was asked for an effort when winning at Randwick last start to run away from her rivals.
The outside barrier will not be an issue as she can follow Felicia forward, and with just the 49kg, she will look the winner for a long way!
The cream more often than not rises to the top in the Group 1 Coolmore Stud Stakes down the straight six at Flemington on Derby Day.
There is no doubt in my mind that Farnan is the cream in this race.
He was dominant during his autumn campaign as a two year old and although not everything has gone to plan so far this prep, he did win a recent trial by five lengths.
He will run them ragged and it will take a very good one to beat him.
i have no doubt that Cherry Tortoni is the best horse in the 2020 Victoria Derby field.
He proved too strong for Khoekhoe in the Moonee Valley Vase on Saturday after circling the entire field rounding the bend and they beat the rest of the field home by seven lengths!
Khoekhoe is not backing up into the Derby and this is one of the better bets I’ve seen all spring.
The $5.00 was available at the time of publish but anything over even money is a good bet for mine.
If you can forgive him for a flat run last time out in the Caulfield Guineas, King’s Legacy’s record is pretty impressive.
The Redoute’s Choice colt is already a two-time Group 1 winner at this distance in Sydney and with just the 51kg and Glen Boss steering from barrier six, I think he represents incredible value in this year’s Kennedy Cantala.
This is a fantastic way to end the day and there many winning chances in this race.
I’ve landed on Diamond Effort who doesn’t know how to run a bad race.
She was scratched from the Group 1 Manikato Stakes last Friday night because of the weather but she looks really well placed in this contest.
1100m is ideal for her and she is one from one down the Flemington straight six.
