The Supercars field will descend on Mount Panorama this weekend for the 2020 Bathurst 1000.
It is also the final round of the 2020 Supercars season, and while Scott McLaughlin holds an untenable lead in the driver’s championship, winning Bathurst is perched at the top of most drivers’ bucket lists.
A limited number of spectators are being allowed onto the mountain this year, but the race has lost absolutely none of its hype and importance, and we are set for another exciting contest.
You can find my 2020 Bathurst 1000 tips below, including market leaders and best roughies.
2020 Bathurst 1000 Betting Favourites
DJR Team Penske will prepare two live chances of winning the 2020 Bathurst 1000, but there is no doubt that the partnership of Scott McLaughlin and Tim Slade represents their best chance.
McLaughlin will officially be named the 2020 Supercars champion after this race, his third career Supercars championship, and conquering the mountain would be a very nice cherry on top of his season.
He famously won last year’s Bathurst 1000 under contentious circumstances with Frenchman Alex Premat, and his chances of defending his crown lose absolutely nothing with category veteran Tim Slade jumping into the co-driver’s seat.
Easily the most experienced and also the most decorated team at the 2020 Bathurst 1000, we always know what to expect from Jamie Whincup and Craig Lowndes – high quality and professional racing.
Whincup and Lowndes have won three Bathurst 1000s as a pairing (06, 07, 08), and teamed up for the first time since 2009 at last year’s event, finishing fourth.
It is obviously the Holden Commodore’s swansong at Bathurst this year, and it would be fitting two see two of the model’s recent servants steer one to victory, one last time.
Shane van Gisbergen is probably the best driver in the current Supercars fleet that is yet to taste success at Mount Panorama, and he gets another chance alongside three-time winner Garth Tander in 2020.
Van Gisbergen’s horror start to the 2020 season is well and truly in the rear-view mirror, and arrives at Bathurst following wins at the last three Supercars rounds.
The $5 available for van Gisbergen and Tander’s Commodore could prove to be a nice bit of value.
The only other team currently offered at Bathurst 1000 odds of less than $10, and in my opinion the most intriguing team of the leading contenders is the Tickford pairing of Cameron Waters and Will Davison.
Waters has been absolutely flying of late, and was rewarded for his form with a maiden Supercars win at Talem Bend.
He is yet to make much of an impression at Bathurst, but he jumps into a car with a two-time winner in Davison, who will himself be eager to perform given 23Red saga.
Chaz Mostert has been a model of consistency in 2020 without really looking like a threat, and he will partner with veteran Warren Luff at the Bathurst 1000.
Mostert’s 2014 Bathurst win with Paul Morris remains the stuff of legend, but there is absolutely no doubt that he’d need to pull out all the stops to win a second time in 2020, and deliver Luff his first win on the mountain.
$10 looks to be about the right price.
Best 2020 Bathurst 1000 Roughies
2017 Bathurst winner David Reynolds will team up with relative rookie Will Brown this weekend.
Reynolds enters the race eleventh in the driver’s championship, but he has tended to keep his best performances for the biggest stages in recent seasons, and the $21 available at publish is worth consideration.
The one team further down the Bathurst market order than I am happy to say is well and truly over the odds is Mark Winterbottom and James Golding.
Without a full-time drive this year and nothing locked into place for 2021, Golding will be eager to take full advantage of this opportunity, and he represents a formidable partner for 2013 winner Winterbottom, who remains one of Supercars most skilled drivers.
2020 Bathurst 1000 Tips & Overview
As is typically the case, there is a case to be made for plenty of teams in 2020 Bathurst 1000 betting.
That being said, almost everything that Scott McLaughlin touches turns to gold, and with a career in the United States beckoning, he will be eager to leave Australian shores with a win at Bathurst.
I’m also going to back Cameron Waters and Will Davison at current Bathurst odds, while Mark Winterbottom & James Golding are also over the odds.
Suggested Bets
- Back McLaughlin & Slade to Win ($3.75)
- Back Waters & Davison to Win ($7)
- Back Winterbottom & Golding to Win ($51 – small bet)
