best bet
Kembla Grange: Race 1 (1:25pm)
No. 2 Highmaster

Highmaster will take good improvement into his second campaign start today and is ready to win.

The John Thompson-trained gelding was a consistent performer for Gwenda Markwell last time in, but the change in scenery already appears to be making a difference – he trialled extremely well before finishing a half-length second to Bucharest when resuming at Newcastle.

In this small field, I can’t find a reason why he won’t be in the finish.

Kembla Grange: Race 3 (2:40pm)
No. 6 Tudor Music

Tudor Music has returned to the races in excellent form this time and looks the one to beat in Race 3 at Kembla Grange this afternoon.

The Your Song filly recorded impressive and consecutive wins at Muswellbrook and Scone when resuming his time, and was last seen finishing fourth in a tougher race at Warwick Farm a couple of weeks ago.

City company was probably a little beyond her at this point of her career, but something on the provincial circuit like this race looks ideal.

Kembla Grange: Race 7 (5:15pm)
No. 4 Chalk

This is the most open race on today’s card at Kembla Grange, but I am a fan of the Wendy Roche-trained Chalk and this does look a winnable one for him.

Chalk gave his rivals windburn when resuming this time at Gosford, and while he didn’t measure up in a Saturday race at Randwick, I thought there was a lot to like about his runs from the tail of the field at Doomben and Warwick Farm most recently.

He’s rock-hard fit, he can settle a little closer from barrier 8 and with even luck, he can finish over the top.

each way
Townsville: Race 8 (5:25pm)
No. 5 Just A Love Song

Just A Love Song has mixed his form a little recently, but he looks to be at peak condition for his race at Townsville this afternoon and his best is definitely good enough to win.

The Love Conquers All gelding is a winner at the track and distance, having broken his maiden here three back, and he was last seen finishing second behind The Swell at Home Hill.

He likes racing on the soft and at around the $10 mark, we can have a genuine each-way play.
