The Valley: Race 2 (5:45pm)
No. 5 Express Pass

Express Pass has recorded two wins from as many starts this preparation and strikes another winnable one at The Valley tonight.

The Wandjina gelding returned some decent efforts in good races last time in, but he has clearly gone to a new level this time in and has beaten home to good and in-form horses.

Fitter third-up and from the rails draw, I can’t find a reason why he won’t be in the finish again.

best bet
The Valley: Race 3 (6:15pm)
No. 4 Alfa Oro

The looks to be the perfect campaign launchpad for Alfa Oro and he will take a power of beating.

The Matt Laurie-trained sprinter has been a good horse throughout his racing career, but he clearly went to another level last preparation and has won each of his last four starts.

Ben Melham has options from the rails draw, he has a class edge over the lion’s share of these rival and he is my best bet on the program.

The Valley: Race 4 (6:45pm)
No. 1 Glenfiddich

This is a decent drop in class for the second-up Glenfiddich and he’s going to take a power of beating in the Stutt Stakes.

The Fastnet Rock colt was a good horse during his two-year-old season, winning the Mornington Sires and finishing second in the Group 1 Champagne Stakes most notably.

His first-up effort this time to fill the minors behind Behemoth in the Memsie Stakes was clearly the best of his career so far however, and dropping back to three-year-olds company with improvement is exactly what I want to be following.

each way
The Valley: Race 7 (8:15pm)
No. 11 Hanseatic

I’m expecting big second-up improvement from Hanseatic, and the Moir Stakes represents a great opportunity for him to record his first Group 1 win.

The Street Boss colt was almost faultless during his two-year-old season, winning three races and finishing a close-up second in the Neds Blue Diamond Stakes most notably.

He’d clearly had enough by the time that he went around in the Golden Slipper, and he did all of his best work late when he resumed for fourth in the Group 2 McEwen Stakes at this track and distance.

He gets in well at the weights, he’s drawn well enough and he needs only even luck to be in the finish once again.
