The Offload: NRL Round 12 Recap

NRL Round 12 is in the books and we have seen plenty of movement in the futures market following another big week of footy.

Seven of the eight favourites saluted with both the Thursday and Saturday primetime games costing the book a very decent chunk of coin.

We’ve also got your usual dose of digits and trends to help you back a winner in the future, so be sure to read on below for everything you need to know in another edition of The Offload.

Performance of the Week

Pretty easy watch if you were on the Panthers.

Penrith demolished Manly 42-12 in front of the Brookvale faithful to not only remain on top of the ladder for another week, but also firm in Premiership betting.

Ivan Cleary’s men are now $5.00 in from $6.00 following their fifth win over a top eight side, and if they keep this up, they might just go all the way.

The Panthers were also paying $3.20 to win by 13+, while there was plenty of value on offer for Charlie Staines to pick up where he left off in his debut against Cronulla three weeks ago.

Penrith’s future star fullback returned from his suspension to score a double paying $10.00, not to be outdone by Stephen Crichton, who crossed the line in his seventh straight game.

Don’t Argue…

With Alex Johnston.

We hadn’t heard much from the Rabbitohs’ winger since Round 8, but he made his presence felt on Thursday night with a hat-trick of tries paying $11.00 in the win over the Dragons.

Johnston’s performance ultimately won the game for the Bunnies as they clung on for a 32-24 win, a result that has vaulted Souths back inside the eight.

Johnston had scored a try in each of South Sydney’s last four away games as a favourite, so it came as no surprise to watch him put up some big numbers.

With the Broncos up next on Friday night, don’t be surprised if he continues to add to that tally.

Punter’s Pals

  • Cody Walker Anytime ($4.00): this was a huge collect for punter’s that pay attention to the trends! After Matt Dufty scored the first try of the game on Thursday night just six minutes into the game, Walker answered not long after with one of his own. To bring you up to speed, he’s now scored a try in four of South Sydney’s last five games as a favourite against the Dragons.
  • Latrell Mitchell Anytime ($2.40): likewise, Latrell also came up with the goods in his return to the side scoring for the fourth time in a row against St George.
  • Sione Katoa Anytime ($1.72): there is something very wrong if you aren’t including this man in your multis. As the price suggests, Katoa was almost a certainty to score on Friday night against the Broncos. The star winger found the line with 10-minutes to spare and has now scored in five of Cronulla’s last six matches as a favourite.
  • Cronulla at the Line: they left it late, but the Sharks managed to cover the -3 line. As a result, Cronulla has now covered the line in six of their last seven away games.
  • Anthony Don Anytime ($2.60): our man scored one of the tries of the season in Saturday’s narrow loss to the reigning premiers. Don has now scored a try in six of the Titans’ last seven away games, so be sure to include him in two weeks’ time against the Sharks at Jubilee.
  • Curtis Scott Anytime ($3.00): not sure what it is, but the big man seems to love playing up in Queensland. Scott has now scored a try in each of his last five appearances in the Sunshine State after finding the line in Saturday’s win over the Cowboys.

Don’t Forget About

Clinton Gutherson.

There wasn’t a whole lot to like about the Eels in the second half against the Bulldogs on Sunday, but fortunately Gutherson had done just enough to get Parmatta over the line with a first half double paying $8.50.

Matt Dufty is also worth a mention here after coming through with a double of his own in the loss to South Sydney.

The star fullback has become a very popular bet in our Anytime Try Scorer market, but it was those who backed him at $13.00 in the First Try Scorer market but that came away with the big collect.

Mr. Irrelevant

Hard to go past Maika Sivo this week for a couple of different reasons.

His deliberate forward pass denied the Dogs a chance to send the game to golden point on Sunday, while he was also a complete no show for punter’s that backed him @ $1.68 to score Anytime.

After scoring a double a week earlier against the Tigers, Sivo appeared to be an absolute moral to find the line at some point.

Unfortunately for those unlucky enough to back him, Sivo finished with a lousy 56m to his name in a completely forgettable performance.

Future’s Forecast

The Raiders firmed back into single-digits last week in our NRL Premiership market and they’ve again received a nice little shave following Saturday’s win over North Queensland.

Canberra are $9.00 into $8.00 on the second line of betting, a number that is set to change drastically one way or another following this week’s game against the Panthers in Penrith.

The other big move was the Roosters, who have drifted slightly from $3.50 out to $3.75 following another tough game against the Titans.

Manly are also $11 out to $17, no real surprise following Saturday’s belting at the hands of Penrith.

It’s Getting Hot in Here

It might be a bit of a knee jerk reaction, but Manly has received a touch up in our market ‘To Miss the 8’.

After being belted by the Panthers, the Sea Eagles have now firmed from $4.00 into $3.15 to miss the cut for the finals.

Bloody Good Bets

It was another big week for the favourites and plenty of Neds customers wasted no time loading up on a few shorties.

  • $10k @ $2.00 – South Sydney Rabbitohs to Cover the Line (-4.5)

  • $15k @ $2.00 – Gold Coast Titans to Cover the Line (+19.5)
