Daily Racing Tips – Tuesday, September 1

Newcastle: Race 3 (2:40pm)
No. 1 Reaching

It’s fair to say that the well-bred Reaching hasn’t lived up to expectations, but she certainly has some ability and can break her maiden at Newcastle this afternoon.

By Deep Impact and out of Alinghi, Reaching has placed four times in five career starts and has run into some decent types.

She ran home well to fill the minors here at Newcastle when resuming and might not be offered a better opportunity than this.

Benalla: Race 7 (4pm)
No. 4 Contrition

Contrition hasn’t been seen at the races since April, but this is a big drop in class and she is yet to finish worse than second in two previous fresh attempts.

The Tavistock mare won in BM64 at Wangaratta when resuming last time and continued to perform well in fast tougher races, ending her prep with appearances in the Vinery Stud Stakes and Australian Oaks.

The $5 available at publish is overs.

Newcastle: Race 6 (4:35pm)
No. 2 Centimental

Centimental has improved for three starts this time and is ready to break her maiden at Newcastle this afternoon.

The Snitzel filly finished fourth at each of her first two starts back from a spell, both in Sydney, and she was last seen finishing second behind Jet Propulsion here at Newcastle.

She’s drawn to receive a lovely run from barrier 2 and the booking of Sam Clipperton to ride is positive.

Newcastle: Race 7 (5:10pm)
No. 2 Gaelic

The early scratching of leading fancy Bravado has opened this race up, and Gaelic rates as a winning chance.

Gaelic hasn’t been seen at the races since February, but he won on debut at Canterbury and was last seen finishing fourth behind Foxborough in the Canberra Guineas Prelude.

He’s had the benefit of a few trials leading into this and looks ready to go.
