Royal Randwick Tips & Preview – Saturday 1st August

There are nine races to navigate at Royal Randwick this Saturday and we have found the winner in every single race.

You can fill your pockets by following all of our tips here.

Race 1: Benchmark 72 Handicap (1300m) 11:45am
No. 1 Royal Banquet

Lightly raced Snitzel gelding Royal Banquet has won both his starts so far this prep taking his overall record to thiree wins from four starts.

He couldn’t have been anymore impressive last start over the 1300m at Newcastle and he looks well placed again for his forst start at Randwick in this event.

He has drawn well and James McDonald gets on top for the first time which is a plus.

Race 2: Highway Handicap (1200m) 12:20pm
No. 8 Glamour Cat

Glamour Cat has had three attempts at these Highway races this prep and was not far awat in his first two before stepping out over the 1300m.

I think he is much better suited over the 1200m and although James McDonald has a tricky gate to oversome, he is more than capable at this level.

Race 3: Benchmark 94 Handicap (1300m) 12:55pm
No. 6 You Make Me Smile

Jason Collett had to do a bit of work early to get You Make Me Smile to the lead at Rosehill last start but the So You Think gelding was very brave late to just miss.

He seems to relish the heavy conditions and does his best work when rolling along in front so with a bit of luck from the gate, and with the light weight, he represents good value at his current quote.

Race 4: Benchmark 74 Handicap (1000m) 1:30pm
No. 5 Escaped

The Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott trained Escaped was excellent when resuming at Hawkesbury on the heavy track, scoring by half a length.

The son of Exceed and Excel is a short course specialist and he should get a gun run from barrier four with Tommy Berry steering.

Race 5: Benchmark 78 Handicap (1600m) 2:10pm
No. 2 Word For Word

Word For Word has been racing consistently this prep and he should be plenty fit for this assignment.

James McDonald retains the ride on the five year old mare and whilst she doesn’t win out of turn, she is never far away at this level of racing.

Race 6: Benchmark 78 Handicap (1800m) 2:50pm
No. 2 Kiss The Bride

Kiss The Bride runs into a similar field of horses to what she found last time out at this track and distance when she narrowly missed behind Le Lude.

She has been placed in 13 of her 17 career race starts and with a bit of luck from the gate, she will be right in a race of this quality yet again.

best bet
Race 7: Benchmark 88 Handicap (1100m) 3:30pm
No. 7 Sangria

Sangria is a talented young filly who has managed four wins from eight career race starts.

She finished her last campaign with a sixth in the Group 3 P J Bell Stakes behind Rubisaki and she will find this much easier.

She was dominant in her trial leading into this first up assignment and has drawn to get a nice run in transit from barrier two.

each way
Race 8: Benchmark 78 Handicap (1800m) 4:10pm
No. 11 Diamonds And Rust

The Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott trained Diamonds and Rust is well over the odds in the second last race of the day at Randwick.

The lightly raced four year old mare has won just once in 12 career starts but she has been racing very consistent;y this prep and has finished second in three of her last four outings.

She has drawn barrier six for this assignment and will carry just the 53,5kgs.

Race 9: Benchmark 78 Handicap (1400m) 4:50pm
No. 9 Charretera

Charretera has been knocking at the door in all three of his starts so far this prep and the step up to 1400m should be ideal at this stage in his prep.

He has been a very consistent performer over his 19 career race starts having placed in all but five and he will get a nice run in transit from barrier six.
