Royal Randwick Day Tips & Preview

Popular galloper Classique Legend returns to the races in the feature race of the day at Royal Randwick Saturday.

We have gone through every race on the card and our Royal Randwick Day Tips & Preview can be found here.

each way
Race 1: Castelvecchio @ Arrowfield Handicap (1400m) 11:25am
No. 7 Zoumist

A tough way to start the day and a number of these could be winning.

Zoumist represents good value at the $6.00 after the Zoustar filly won by 1.8 lengths at Kembla Grange last start over the 1400m and is worth a small each way play to start the day.

Race 2: Quincy Seltzer Handicap (1800m) 12:00pm
No. 2 Kirwan's Lane

Kirwan’s Lane has been racing very consistent;y since breaking through for his maiden win back in March.

He has not run worst than second since and his last start win by 2.8 lengths at Canterbury over the 1900m was very impressive.

James Mcdonald jumps on top for the first time and he looks the one to beat.

Race 3: Highway Handicap (1100m) 12:35pm
No. 10 Lolly Dolly

Lolly Dolly is a lightly raced five year old mare who has managed three wins and two minor placings from her seven career race starts.

She she has won her last two by a combined 4.6 lengths and she represents great value at the double figure quote.

Race 4: Schweppes Handicap (2400m) 1:10pm
No. 7 Loveseat

She has been a somewhat frustrating horse so far this prep. After winning impressively three starts back, she has found trouble in her past two a crucial stages but I think she is worth sticking with.

The mare by Savabeel is already a winner over the 2400m at Rosehill in November and she is worth an each way bet at her current quote of $8.50 at time of publish.

Race 5: Calyx @ Coolmore Australia Handicap (1200m) 1:50pm
No. 6 Tony's Reward

Tony’s Reward can run a nice race for us first up at a double figure quote.

He has won three of his six races fresh and his recent barrier trial when finishing second beyond Classique Legend was full of merit.

He has found some early support in betting which suggests he is ready to go.

best bet
Race 6: Vale Darby McCarthy Handicap (1200m) 2:30pm
No. 3 Enfleurage

Enfleurage did all the chasing when running sixth behind the very smart Witherspoon last start at Randwick over the 1000m.

The run is much better than it looks on paper as a wall of horses ran over her very late to demote her to sixth, but they had all spent no tickets at the tail of the field.

She will be much better for that run and will appreciate the step up to 1200m now. I’m very keen on her and she is my best of the day.

best bet
Race 7: Listed Bob Charley AO Stakes (1100m) 3:10pm
No. 1 Classique Legend

Classique Legend looks very well placed in this Listed event first up.

She is a proven fresh performer with a win and a second from two first up runs.

She was narrowly beaten by Pierata at Group 2 level first up last prep at this track and distance and her trial leading in suggests she is ready to win.

Race 8: Drinkwise Mile (1600m) 3:50pm
No. 7 Phaistos

Phaistos has a win and two narrow seconds from three starts so far this prep.

He flashed home from near last behind Dr Drill last start at Scone at Listed level and although this is a very open race, he is the smartest bet at the current quote.

Race 9: Benchmark 78 Handicap (1600m) 4:25pm
No. 1 Opacity

I tipped punters into Opacity two weeks ago at the double figures and I’m finding it tough to get away from the talented three year old gelding in the final race of the day.

He has now won four of his six career race starts and has missed the placings only once.

He will be even better over the 1600m in my opinion and he can finish the day on a winning note for us.
