Happy Valley Tips & Preview – Wednesday, June 10

Race 1: Class 4 Handicap (1200m), 8:45pm
No. 10 Bullish Brother

Bullish Brother was a comfortable last start winner over the course and distance, and while he does carry an extra 3kg this time around, he is at peak fitness having his fifth run back from a spell.

True Legend broke through for his maiden two runs back at Sha Tin and his latest effort when fourth carrying 59.5kg from the wide draw suggests he should take plenty of improvement.

Three-year-old Snitzel gelding Athena is having his third race start and looks one for the minors.

He showed plenty of promise running on for fourth second-up over the course and distance back in April and will likely go forward from barrier 2.

Race 2: Class 4 Handicap (1800m), 9:15pm
No. 6 Dragon Commander

Dragon Commander rattled home for fourth out wide in his last start over the track and distance behind Dionysus Collin and now drops a kilogram with Joao Moreira looking to steer the five-year-old into his first Hong Kong win.

Party Together comes out of the same race where he closed strongly for third in a photo behind Pretty Bauhinia.

The son of Poet’s Voice has placed in three of his eight starts now over the 1800m and has drawn a similar gate with Antoine Hamelin back in the saddle.

Perfect To Play was a winner two starts back over the distance at Sha Tin and does have a decent record at The Valley to suit. The six-year-old rates as a serious each-way chance with Blake Shinn dropping weight.

Race 3: Class 5 Handicap (1650m), 9:45pm
No. 9 Treasure Chest, No. 5 V Chevaliers EW

V Chevaliers was narrowly beaten two starts back over the track and distance by Humble Steed carrying a similar weight with Chad Schofield on board.

The five-year-old made up ground from the wide draw to finish fourth in his latest start and looks a good chance to break through for his first race win.

Wonderful Tiger was last seen at the races winning by two lengths over the same track and distance and now returns from a three-month break.

He’s trialled beautifully in the leadup and will be doing his best work late.

Treasure Chest mixes his form but is capable of sneaking a place from the wide gate.

The Ocean Park gelding ran on for fourth last start over the mile at Sha Tin and the booking of Joao Moreira signals intent from the stable.

Race 4: Class 3 Handicap (1000m), 10:15pm
No. 6 Flying Bonus

Flying Genius is already a two-time winner over the course and distance this season and hasn’t been far off adding a third with three consecutive placings to his name.

The All Too Hard gelding gets in light again at the weights and Karis Teetan should have plenty of options at his disposal from barrier 3.

Metro Warrior kicked off his Hong Kong campaign with a brave fourth over the 1200m at Sha Tin a fortnight ago.

This is a much tougher assignment for the Fastnet Rock three-year-old, but a placing wouldn’t surprise with Zac Purton booked to ride.

Flying Bonus won easily over the 1200m last start by over two lengths and has placed twice in three runs over the 1000m.

He proved last time out that he can overcome the wide gate and he gets in very light at the weights stepping back a class.

Race 5: Class 4 Handicap (1200m), 10:45pm
No. 6 Amazing

Zac Purton rode Amazing to a win five starts back over the same journey and it would not surprise to watch the pair swoop in late for another.

Purton’s strike rate when riding for trainer Benno Young is outstanding, and with the stable in some form of late, the six-year-old by Medaglia D’Oro rates as one of the top chances.

Destine Jewellery has shown plenty of ability in his first season in Hong Kong winning four starts back over the course and distance.

He’s also found the placings on three other occasions and maps to get a lovely run in transit from barrier 6.

Race 6: Class 4 Handicap (1200m), 11:15pm
No. 12 Victorious Leader

Victorious Leader was a last start winner over the course and distance carrying the top weight and now returns to Class 4 level looking to make good use of the inside draw.

Here Comes Ted was also a narrow winner over the 1200m at Happy Valley back in May and has drawn an identical gate with Karis Teetan carrying an extra 2kg this time around.

Resolute is the danger having shown steady improvement in each of his last two runs.

The lightly-raced Per Incanto gelding has only four starts to his name and strips fitter for his last start fourth at Sha Tin.

each way
Race 7: Class 3 Handicap (1650m), 11:45pm
No. 10 Brave King

Zac Purton sticks aboard Cinquante Cinq and the pair look extremely tough to beat following their last-start second together back on April 29.

Brave King has strung together back-to-back fourths over the track and distance and has finally drawn an inside gate for the first time since venturing over to Hong Kong.

Chad Schofield drops 2kg following their last race together and with a decent price on offer, I’m happy to have him each way.

Race 8: Class 3 Handicap (1200m), 12:15am
No. 5 California Rad

California Rad has returned to the races in some form and there is no doubt he has a class edge over the rest of this field.

The three-year-old by Fastnet Rock was a first-up winner over this distance by close to two lengths before going on with it two weeks later to make it a double.

His latest effort when second suggests the wide barrier will be no problem on Wednesday and he maps to get a lovely run sitting mid-field. With even luck, he can easily make it three from four this time in.

Race 9: Class 2 Handicap (1000m), 12:50am
No. 6 Multimillion

Hong Kong Win kicked off his campaign with a first-up victory over the 1000m at Sha Tin and is now resuming off a 32-day let up.

He’s placed second-up before and with even luck along the rails, he should be right in the finish under the steady hand of Joao Moreira.

Multimillion was impressive in his return when third out of the same race.

The five-year-old by Tycoon Ruler is a five-time winner over this distance and also holds a second-up win to his name.

Karis Teetan retaining the ride is a big tick and the pair map to come close from the wide draw.
