Donald: Race 1 (12:30pm)
No. 3 Olympic Spirit

Olympic Spirit appears to be a decent type and he can break his maiden at Donald this afternoon, at a lovely price ($7.50 at publish).

The Daniel Bowman-trained gelding needed the run when he arrived in Victoria and finished down the order at Terang but has since returned two competitive efforts to finish fourth here and at Warracknabeal.

He’s fitter fourth-up and can slot in behind the early pace from barrier 7.

Donald: Race 3 (1:30pm)
No. 5 Nasukawa

Another horse that looks well placed to break his maiden at Donald this afternoon is Nasukawa.

Nasukawa has only made one appearance at the races so far, but he took a position on the pace at Geelong and looked to have the race wrapped up until he was just caught late.

He’ll be better for that experience and can employ similar tactics today from barrier 7.

With even luck, he can record his first win.

Donald: Race 8 (4pm)
No. 18 Mark The Horse

This looms as one of, if not the most open race on the card at Donald today and Mark The Horse looks a touch of overs at around the $16 mark.

The Warrior’s Reward gelding found form around some good horses early in his career and has placed at Group 2 level.

He took a few to get going upon resuming this time but was rewarded for his building form with a lovely win at Stawell last time out and I think he can go on with the job today.

Donald: Race 9 (4:30pm)
No. 7 Backpedal

Backpedal hasn’t been seen at the races since October, but she is an above-average horse and can make a winning return at Donald this afternoon.

The daughter of Toronado immediately stamped herself as a filly to follow when she broke her maiden on debut at Ballarat and contested two black type races in the wake of that performance, finishing sixth in both.

This is obviously a big drop in class and she is my best bet of the day.
