Nedflix and Chill – The Best Sport on TV: Weekend Fri 8/5 – Sun 10/5

While you might be all waiting around for the next two episodes of The Last Dance to drop on Netflix, we’ve trawled through the TV guides to see what kind of sporting content you can consume over the weekend in another edition of Nedflix and Chill

FRIDAY 8TH MAY

FOX FOOTY RECALL –
North Melbourne v Melbourne Round 20 1991
FOX Footy / Kayo 7pm

It’s “Big Bag Week” this weekend on FOX Footy, devoting all of their programming to nothing but full forwards kicking bags of goals all weekend long.

For their Friday night classic recalls, FOX Footy have picked a more random one out of the blue – the Round 20 1991 clash between North Melbourne and Melbourne at the MCG.

Demons fans are sure to delight in a 2020 adaptation of the day cult figure Allen Jackovich kicked 11 goals in the Dees 52 point win over the Roos.

North fans will also get to see John Longmire kick seven in a losing side from the other end.

Look out for Jackovich putting on some party tricks – including his iconic bicycle reverse kick resulting in his eighth goal for the match.

The MCG will also resemble a construction site in this game with the Great Southern Stand under construction.

Allen Jackovich’s AFL career was for a good time, not a long time.

He may have only played 54 games, but is the ultimate cult-footballer who could match it with the best.

This version of the Jako Show is set to be a beauty.

Tell your Melbourne mates this is on – they’ll thank you for it.

FOX LEAGUE CLASSICS LIVE
2009 Preliminary Final – Canterbury v Parramatta
FOX League / Kayo 7pm

Perhaps the aftermath of what eventually happened to the 2009 Grand Final winners – The Melbourne Storm and their salary cap problems has overshadowed it, but the story but Parramatta coming from 14th position to 8th position in at the end of the regular season to make the finals is quite a good one.

While Eels fans might feel a little hard done by with what happened after their Grand Final loss, their fairytale efforts in that finals campaign remains a highlight.

It’s been a while since the glory days at Parramatta but a 2020 recall of their efforts against the Canterbury Bulldogs in the Prelim remains one of their finest moments in recent years.

Every Parra fan will no doubt enjoy a 2020 version of it.

SATURDAY MAY 9th

SATURDAY RACING
Channel 7 – 12 midday

Credit to Channel Seven for sticking with the Racing when all other options are taking a break.

It will be good to have an HD option of both the South Australian Derby Day at Morphettville and Neds Caulfield Raceday.

Along with both Morphettville and Caulfield – Seven is also showing Gosford Gold Cup races.

This is a far better option than having to flick between Sky and Racing.com for mine.

Along with the fact Seven is showing the Races, it gives us a chance to get a Bruce McAvaney fix.

The Footy and the Olympics may have been put on hold, but at least Bruce can still focus in on his true love – Racing.

BIG BAG WEEK:
St Kilda v Carlton Round 21 1991 – 7pm
Adelaide v Carlton Round 1 1994 – 9pm

FOX Footy / Kayo

Of all the themed weekends FOX Footy have been doing over the COVID19 footy hiatus, Big Bag Week is without the standout for mine.

A celebration of forwards kicking bags, all day Saturday FOX Footy is showing Matthew Pavilich kicking 9 aginst Carlton in 2005, Buddy Frankin kicking THIRRTTTEEEEN for the Hawks against North in 2012, Jason Dunstal’s 14 against Footscray back in 1996, a young Jack Riewoldt kicking 10 against West Coast back in 2010 and Sticks Kernahan having a day out with a lazy 10 against Footscray in 1995.

The prime-time line up of big bags is mouthwatering.

First, we have the GOAT – Tony Lockett’s 13 sausage rolls as the Saints demolish Carlton to the tune of 54 points back in Round 21, 1991 at Waverley.

After some prime-time Plugger, FOX replays the Round 1 1994 clash between Adelaide and Carlton from Football Park.

This was the night Tony Modra kicked 13 goals, after threatening to give the game up altogether just weeks prior to the season.

Any lineup of classic football replays involving the likes of Tony Lockett and Tony Modra kicking bags and putting on a clinic is must-see viewing for mine.

SUNDAY MAY 10th

UFC 249 – FERGUSON v GATHJE
Main Event Pay Per View

This could be the one and only fight you pay full-price pay per view for.

Think about it,

The pubs are shut

You can only have a certain amount of people allowed in your house right now (Depending on your state restrictions)

If you want to watch the fight -you gotta pay full price.

No passing the hat around.

It’s full price.

But we’re all desperate for some proper live sport, and it’ll be worth every cent.

Master Chef
Channel 10 – 7:30 pm

It’s been a nostalgic time on Master Chef of recent.

Not only is the show doing an All-Stars series with our favourite contestants from years gone by returning but they’ve been harking back to a time when suburban restaurants were available for dine-in patrons with “Suburban takeover” week.

Master Chef now goes into “Twist Week” with Katy Perry (who sings the themes song) paying a visit to the kitchen and for them to make a dish that can be home delivered – a sign of the times to come.

From a punting perspective, recent developments on the show have seen Reynold go into it as the $1.30 favourite.

However, right now is a great time to get on Poh at $4.50 for mine.

People aren’t calling this series “The Poh Show” for no reason.
