2020 Inglis Guineas Day Tips & Preview

We have five Listed races and one Group 3 to look forward to at Rosehill on Saturday for Inglis Guineas Day.

We have previewed all nine races and offered our thoughts and betting plays below.

each way
Race 1: Highway Handicap (1500m) 11:35am
No. 6 Shamusu Sho

It took a while for Shamusu Sho to break through for his maiden race win two starts back at his fifth race start but he has now started to put it all together.

He has won his last two now by a combined 9.3 lengths and if he can continue to improve, a race of this quality is right up his alley.

Race 2: Benchmark 78 Handicap (2400m) 12:10pm
No. 2 Fanciful Toff

Hugh Bowman will need to navigate a tricky gate in the second event of the day at Rosehill aboard Fanciful Toff but the son of Toorak Toff looks well placed yet again in this contest.

He has put in three very good efforts so far this prep and should now be ready to peak at his fourth run.

He has been competitive in higher grades of race than this one and with even luck he should be fighting out the finish.

Race 3: Listed Yarraman Park Woodlands Stakes (1100m) 12:45pm
No. 3 Zeftabrook

Zeftabrook has managed two wins and a third from her three race starts so far in her short career and I’ve got a lot of time for the daughter of Hinchinbrook.

She was not suited by the heavy track when scoring at Wellington last start but she knuckled down to the task and won impressively.

This is another step up in class for her, but she has drawn perfectly in barrier four and I like the fact that she had a barrier trial in between runs.

Race 4: Restricted Listed Inglis Guineas (1400m) 1:20pm
No Bet

With the scratching of Masked Crusader, I’m happy to stay out of this one.

Dawn Passage has been very well supported but I could make a case for all five horses in the race.

Race 5: Benchmark 78 Handicap (1100m) 1:55pm
No. 8 Snowzone

The Australian Bloodstock horse Snowzone makes his way back down south after a successful stint in Queensland over the summer.

He was dominant in his two wins up north and a recent barrier trial suggests he is ready to run a race first up.

He has drawn well in barrier six with Brenton Avdulla steering and he represents good value.

Race 6: Listed Luskin Star Stakes (1300m) 2:35pm
No. 11 Sir Bacchus

Sir Bacchus represents value at $51 in this race.

There looks to be a lot of speed in the race with Special Missile, Eleven Eleven and Sambro and the speedy grey will settle at the back of the field and storm home late.

He is a horse that is used to carrying big weights and he will not know himself with just the 53kg.

best bet
Race 7: Listed Denise's Joy Stakes (1100m) 3:15pm
No. 5 Fituese

Fituese returned to the races with an arrogant win on 1000m At Randwick and Rachel King eased the filly down to score by 2.8 lengths.

She was not beaten by far at Listed level at Gosford at the end of her first prep, and she looks a bigger and more mature filly than she was at that stage of her career.

Race 8: Group 3 Dark Jewel Classic (1400m) 3:55pm
No. 5 Irithea

This is a very difficult edition of the Group 3 Dark Jewel Classic with many in form fillies and mares to assess.

I’ve landed on Irithea who was only run over late at Group 3 level last start and she will land on the speed yet again in this contest.

The wide barrier is not an issue as she will go forward and the step up to 1400m is also a plus.

Race 9: Listed Ortensia Stakes (1100m) 4:35pm
No. 3 Villami

Villami has been racing very consistently so far this prep and I love the fact that she drops back down to 1100m here.

Tim Clark will have plenty of options from barrier three and if they take her on for the lead I’d be happy if she took a sit just in behind them.
