Mosscon has been knocking on the door of a maiden race win since resuming this time and is ready to get the monkey off her back at Wangaratta this afternoon. The David Brideoake-trained filly ran home well to finish fourth at Pakenham when resuming and has since placed in two subsequent appearances, including a close-up second at Geelong. This does look to be her best chance of winning so far and she simply will not be offered a better opportunity.
Old Head has only made two appearances at the races so far, but he has stamped himself as one to watch and is primed to win at Wangaratta this afternoon. The Pins gelding was unlucky not to win on debut at Pakenham and ran home respectably again to finish second here at Wangaratta last time out. Fitter third-up, I can’t find a reason why he won’t be in the finish again.
River Mist has returned some pleasing efforts recently and strikes another winnable contest at Wangaratta this afternoon. The Pierro mare never looked in doubt when winning at Werribee two back but did tire late to finish fourth at Kyneton last time out. She looks to be at peak fitness for what also looks to be a weaker contest this afternoon.
Lansbrook hasn’t been seen at the races since January, but he is clearly a horse of ability and can make a winning return at Wangaratta today. The Hinchinbrook gelding ran second when on debut last June and resumed in December for a lovely win at Colac. He’ll need some luck from barrier 11 but is certainly up to winning something of this quality.
