Newcastle: Race 1 (12:05pm AEDT)
No. 9 Perfect Impression

Perfect Impression will take good improvement into her second campaign task and is ready to break her maiden at Newcastle today. The Hallowed Crown filly showed glimpses of talent during her last preparation and worked home well to fill the minors at Warwick Farm when resuming. She’s drawn well and with even luck, will take beating.

Newcastle: Race 4 (1:50pm AEDT)
No. 6 Amica

Amica has returned to the races in excellent form this time and can continue her rise through the grades at Newcastle today. The Gerald Ryan-trained filly needed the run when she finished towards the tail of the field at Gosford when resuming but enjoyed big improvement into her second run; a close-up second over 1350m at Wyong. She could hardly have been more impressive in winning her last two starts and this does look the next logical step for her.

Newcastle: Race 8 (4:20pm AEDT)
No. 2 Lancer

This is one of the more open races on today’s Newcastle card, but a horse like Lancer has plenty of upside and is up to winning. The Sepoy gelding returned a pleasing effort when resuming at Gosford, mustering a good turn of foot to finish a nose behind Daphne Jean. Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott’s horses are absolutely flying and this bloke can return the stable another winner.

Newcastle: Race 11 (6:05pm AEDT)
No. 9 Lifetime Quest

Lifetime Quest has stripped fitter for two competitive efforts this time and can win this afternoon’s Provincial Championships Qualifier at Newcastle. The Exceed And Excel gelding finished a nose second at Warwick Farm when resuming before finishing less than two lengths fourth behind Maddi Rocks at Canterbury last time out. He is a genuine city-grade horse and just the best in this field, for mine. He’ll be tough to beat.
