2020 Adelaide Cup Tips

It’s a real shame that it no longer boasts Group 1 status, because the Adelaide Cup remains one of Australia’s standout staying tests and we’re set for another quality edition on Monday afternoon.

Won by Surprise Baby on his way towards an enormous fifth in the Melbourne Cup, the Adelaide Cup has drawn sixteen stayers in 2020 and there is a case to be made for many of them.

You can find my 2020 Adelaide Cup tips below.

Suggested Bets

  • 3 Units straight out #4 King Of Leogrance
  • Boxed Trifecta of the selections below
Adelaide Cup - Winner
No. 4 King Of Leogrance

King Of Leogrance has returned to the races in excellent condition this time and he will take a power of beating in the Adelaide Cup. The Camelot gelding was competitive without setting the racing community on fire in spring but has clearly resumed a better horse this time and hit the line with intent to finish second over 1800m first-up at Caulfield. He returned to winning form with a dominant performance in the Listed Bart Cummings last time and any improvement from that would see him into the finish of the Adelaide Cup.

Adelaide Cup - 2nd
No. 11 Heart Of Grace

Heart Of Grace has been a strong and consistent performer this time and her fitness could prove the difference in running out a strong two miles in the Adelaide Cup. The Heart’s Cry mare recorded her first Australian win over 3100m at the ‘Bool three back and has continued to impress as trainer Anthony Cummings has raised the bar, culminating in placings in the Morong Cup at Bendigo and the Listed Lord Reims Stakes here last time out. She’s bred to stay all day and could prove big overs at double-figure Adelaide Cup odds.

Adelaide Cup - 3rd
No. 3 Dabiyr

Dabiyr is another horse that has returned to the track in career-best form this time and a race like the Adelaide Cup doesn’t look out of his means. The Redoute’s Choice gelding has won two of his last four races, including the Listed Torney Night Cup at The Valley two back, and he was last seen finishing second behind King Of Leogrance in the Royal Higgins. He’s rock-hard fit and if he sees out the trip, has the talent to win.

Adelaide Cup - 4th
No. 2 Yogi

Yogi hasn’t shown his best form in two starts back from a spell, but he is proven over two miles and looks as though he’ll have conditions to suit in the 2020 Adelaide Cup. The Raise The Flag famously won the Sandown Cup over this trip in 2018 and he returned several pleasing efforts throughout his 2019 campaign, including a credible third in the Listed Queensland Cup, also two miles. He looks ready to do something third-up.
