Aasira has continued to improve with racing this time and looks ready to win fourth-up at Wangaratta today. The Ciaron Maher & David Eustace-trained trained mare stripped fitter with a couple of fair efforts when resuming and was last seen finishing off well to fill the minors at Wodonga. With even luck, he can be in the finish again.
Mister Ballistic hasn’t run a bad race since debuting and strikes another very winnable one at Wangaratta today. The Smart Missile gelding is yet to finish outside of the places and resumed this time for a lovely win to break his maiden, before flying home to finish a close second in BM64 company at the ‘Bool last time out. This is a drop in class and he is my best of the day.
Ashlor has won the two most recent editions of the Gold Eldorado and I think that he’ll make it a hat-trick this afternoon. Dan McCarthy’s stable star has stripped fitter for three starts this time in, including an impressive fresh performance in the Group 2 Australia Stakes, and he clearly relishes racing here. I don’t think that topweight will be an issue and a repeat of his tough performance to beat Widgee Turf here last year would see him taking it out again.
There was a lot to like about the way Yulong Knight hit the line to finish fourth at Flemington when resuming and he is primed to win at Wangaratta today. The Invincible Spirit gelding returned several pleasing efforts last time in and he is drawn a peach today in barrier 4. I can’t understand the $7.50 about him at publish and I am more than eager to take that price.
