Gretzky hasn’t been seen at the races since September, but he was competitive during his first campaign for Joseph Ible and can make a winning return at the Sapphire Coast today. The All Too Hard gelding worked home well to finish on the winner’s heels when last first-up; progressing to third in BM70 company at Canberra before recording a lovely win over 1000m at Wagga. This looks an ideal campaign launchpad for him.
Tivoli Street has returned several pleasing results this time and looks tough to beat in the fourth at Murwillumbah today. The Matt Dunn-trained gelding recorded consecutive wins at the Gold Coast and Grafton towards the end of 2019 and while he failed to fire in BM85 company at Ballina, responded with a lovely win at this track and distance two back. He was outclassed at the Magic Millions last time out, but this looks a far more appropriate race for him.
Logan River is an above average athlete and can return to the winner’s stall in this afternoon’s Bega Sprint. The Mitch Beer-trained gelding was a typically strong and consistent performer last time in; returning several pleasing efforts in similar races to this, including the Griffith Cup. He clearly needed the run when he finished towards the tail of the field at Canterbury when resuming, but this is an easier race and he’ll enjoy good improvement for that hit-out.
Appoint Percy has probably been the stable star for Luke Pepper for a couple of seasons now and I think that he can run a cheeky race in this afternoon’s Bega Cup. The Sir Percy gelding has improved for two starts this time in; hitting the line with intent to finish fifth in BM83 company at Nowra last time out. This is a decent field, but this horse will appreciate a good drop in the weights and is up to something of this quality.
