History will be made when a Group 1 race bearing our name will be run and won at Caulfield on Saturday and boy, does it look like being an excellent edition of the Neds C.F. Orr Stakes.
There are nine races on the card, and we’ve previewed the lot! Have a scroll through the Neds C.F. Orr Stakes Day tips below.
This is a less than inspiring way to begin the card, in my opinion. We’ve got several stayers resuming from a spell who will obviously be far better for the run and getting further out in trip, drawn alongside a few that have been racing pretty well, but in a weaker class. I’m happy to wait for the second to open my account on Neds C.F. Orr Stakes Day.
How Womantic is yet to taste anything but success and I think that she’ll enjoy a lovely transition to black type company in the Kevin Hayes Stakes. The three-year-old daughter of The Wow Signal has improved with each effort and was last seen comfortably winning the Vobis Gold Carat at The Valley. She’ll enjoy further improvement from that and while there are a few good ones confirmed for a start here, I think she’s still the one to beat.
A Beautiful Night hasn’t run a bad race since debuting, and I cannot figure out how we can still take an each-way price for her ($6/$2.15 at publish). The Maher & Eustace-trained filly debuted with a good effort to finish second on debut at Bendigo and has since won down the straight at Flemington in the Group 3 Neds Blue Diamond Preview a fortnight ago. She harbours further improvement and sure, there’s some good fillies confirmed for a start, but she is one of them.
Hanseatic looks to be a star two-year-old and thank the lord, because that is just what Godolphin needed. The Street Boss colt has returned two wins from as many career starts so far; taking out the Listed Merson Cooper at Sandown with ease on debut and returning a fortnight ago to win the Preview by nearly three lengths. He’ll only improve into this and obviously, is the one to beat again.
I am an enormous fan of Tagaloa as well, and I’m eager to have something on him at around the $15 mark. The Lord Kanaloa colt debuted with a fair effort to finish third in the Group 3 Maribyrnong Plate before breaking his maiden in style at The Valley. He’ll improve off this effort, but I’d hate to miss out on the price if he’s ready to go.
Microphone wasn’t bad first-up in open company in the Group 2 Australia Stakes and will relish the small rise in trip and the return to his own age in the Autumn Stakes. He was a star during his two-year-old season; finishing no worse than second in five starts and winning the Group 1 Inglis Sires’ over 1400m most notably. There’s a few smart ones engaged for a start, but I am very keen to take some of the $4 about Microphone at publish.
The Rubiton Stakes is always an outstanding contest and a smart field of ten sprinters will step out in the Group 2 race on Saturday.
Bold Star has returned to the races in career-best form this time in and I am eager to have something on again this weekend, particularly at an each-way quote ($6.50/$2.30 at publish). The Gordon Richards-trained gelding has recorded three wins and a close-up second through four starts this time in, continuing to improve with each effort and as the bar has been raised. He’s drawn a peach in barrier 4 and will be further boosted by Craig Williams jumping into the saddle.
The Carlyon Cup looks like being one of the more open contests on Neds C.F. Orr Stakes Day and picking the winner has been a bit of a task.
Miss Siska hasn’t been seen at the races since November, but she is a mare that typically races well fresh and looks a winning chance. The So You Think mare ran second in the Group 2 Let’s Elope when resuming last time and continued to return good efforts in tougher races. She returned a lovely trial in the lead-up to this race and I like that she’s kicking off her preparation over a mile.
This is an outstanding edition of the Neds C.F. Orr Stakes, only strengthened by the naming sponsorship.
More than half the field has caught my eye, but in the interest of narrowing things down, I’ll be having something on both Hey Doc and the resuming Fierce Impact. You can find my full preview and 2020 C.F. Orr Stakes tips RIGHT HERE.
This is an excellent edition of the Bellmaine Stakes, but a tough way to end the Neds C.F. Orr Stakes Day card from a betting perspective.
Sylvia’s Mother is first-up from a spell but is an above-average athlete and I think that she can make a winning return. The Snitzel mare has recorded five wins and two minors through only nine career starts; returning some slick sectionals when resuming last time before easily winning at HQ.
