The first Sydney Derby of the season has arrived and regardless of form, this is typically one of the better contests in the Big Bash every year.
The Sixers flew the blocks with a dominant win over the Scorchers in Sydney, and while they did go missing at their next two appearances, bounced back with another dominant win over the Perth side on Boxing Day. That performance was far from polished, however and they were all but saved by a brilliant innings by tail-ender Tom Curran.
The Thunder are yet to taste anything but success in BBL 9, having recorded two impressive wins before dangerous conditions in the nation’s capital forced a premature end to their most recent outing against the Strikers. They will enter this match fresh following an entire week off.
I’m going to stay away from head-to-head results for this match because I genuinely believe that it could fall either way. Sixers’ paceman Sean Abbott relishes playing in matches like this one and he looks primed to take a bag of wickets.
