The A-League does not slow down for the Christmas period and Santa has gifted us with a full slate of matches this weekend.
There is genuine value to be found in every match this weekend and, like Santa, I am confident that I can deliver a genuine fill-up.
The Western Sydney Wanderers are a complete shambles, they have never recovered from losing Tony Popovich, and I am keen to take them on once again.
Adelaide United are the safest bet of the weekend in the A-League.
They suffered a shock loss to the Central Coast Mariners last week, but they are a much better side than that performance suggests.
They have won eight of their past 13 games as home favourites, while the Western Sydney Wanderers are a poor 2-8 as away underdogs.
My betting strategy for the Wellington Phoenix is a very simple one – back them at home and take them on when they are on the road.
The Phoenix did a great job to take a point from Sydney FC, but this is a tough road trip against a Western United side that continue to surpass expectations.
They have won two of their past three matches as home favourites and they face a Wellington Phoenix outfit that have won only two of their past 13 matches as away underdogs.
Western United are another safe bet.
This is the one game in the A-League this weekend that I really am not looking forward to watching.
Both these sides come into this clash on the back of losses and it is impossible to back either of them with any real confidence.
Newcastle have won five of their past six matches against the Brisbane Roar and they are deserving favourites, but I can’t get them as short as their current odds.
What does represent value is for this game to be a boring slog-fest, with very few goals score.
There is little doubt that Sydney FC are the best team in the A-League and this market is the perfect indication of that.
Melbourne City are on the second line of A-League Championship betting, but it is Sydney FC that are still clear favourites for this clash.
Sydney FC dropped points against the Wellington Phoenix last weekend and it is very rare for them to do that two matches in a row.
They have won 13 of their past 15 matches as home favourites and that isn’t likely to change.
Are the Perth Glory back?
Their 6-2 win over the Newcastle Jets and the fact they have won three games in a row suggests that is the case, but I sense that this could be a danger game for Tony Popovich’s men.
The Central Coast Mariners recorded an upset win over Adelaide United and I fancy them to do the same in this clash.
They have won four of their past 11 games as home underdogs for a clear profit, while Perth have won only four of their past ten matches as away favourites.
I am happy to gamble on the Mariners at $3.70!
