Scone: Race 3 (2:25pm AEDT)
No. 4 Mother's Day

Mother’s Day has only made one appearance at the races so far, but she is clearly a horse of ability and is up to breaking her maiden at Scone this afternoon. The daughter of Stratum was settled behind the early pace when on debut here and mustered a smart turn of foot to finish a close-up second, and there is little doubt that she’ll enjoy good improvement from that experience.

Bendigo: Race 6 (2:45pm AEDT)
No. 7 Necessitas

There was a lot to like about the way that Necessitas hit the line when resuming at Ballarat and she is typically a mare than enjoys sharp improvement with a run under her belt. She returned several excellent performances in City company last time in and I think there’s little double she’ll also improve at this trip. Matt Ellerton and Simon Zahra have enjoyed good success with horses by New Zealand sire Zacinto and I think that this mare can return the stable a lot more this time in. There’s a couple of good ones in this race, but I think that she is one of them and the $12 on offer at publish is over the odds.

Bendigo: Race 8 (4:55pm AEDT)
No. 13 Widespread

Widespread will need appropriate luck in running from the potentially awkward barrier 14, but he is clearly a classy type and can record another win at Bendigo this afternoon. The three-year-old son of Hallowed Crown stamped himself as a horse to follow during his debut prep but appears to have returned to the track an even better horse this time after leading all the way at The Valley first-up. He’ll enjoy good improvement for that hit-out and will give the something to chase.

Doomben: Race 5 (5:07pm AEDT)
No. 9 Sizzling Power

Sizzling Power has returned three competitive efforts this time and is ready to win at Doomben this afternoon. The three-year-old daughter of Sizzling ran on well to finish a close-up second here last time out and should enjoy further improvement from the hit-out. The early scratching of Salina has left her as the horse to beat.
