Wedgetail hasn’t been seen at the races since April, but he’s shown good ability during his short racing career and can break his maiden first-up at Seymour today. The three-year-old son of Foxwedge placed in black type company on debut and finished a close-up second at each of his two autumn starts. He’s trialled well and is ready to win.
Renegade is another horse that is first-up at Seymour on Saturday and he looks well placed to get his campaign off on the right note. The McEvoy-trained gelding returned a few competitive efforts in tougher races last time in and was last seen finishing midfield at Sandown, with 60kgs in tow. There doesn’t look to be too much depth in this field and Renegade will take beating.
Yeldarb has been charged with carrying a big topweight, but he’s got lengths on this field at his best and I think he’ll be winning. The Dan McCarthy-trained gelding recorded consecutive wins at Wodonga and Wangaratta earlier this prep and has been stepping out in some decent city races recently. This is a big drop in class and he is rock-hard fit.
Manolo Blahniq was an acceptor in yesterday’s Group 1 Railway in Perth yesterday, but a fever earlier in the week prevented him from boarding the flight and this afternoon’s Kilmore Cup looks an extremely winnable race for him. The Jimmy Choux gelding has returned to racing in typically competitive form this time and finished second in the Listed Weekend Hussler Stakes most notably, while he was last seen finishing a close sixth in the Chatham Stakes. The $8 on offer at publish is overs.
