A-League Week 7 Tips & Preview

A-League Week 7 Tips & Preview

The A-League enters is seventh week for season 2019/20 and five matches await.

It’s all downhill from Friday night’s blockbuster between the Wanderers and Melbourne City in Western Sydney, but that does not take away from the fact that four more winners are there to be found.

Western Sydney Wanderers vs Melbourne City
Draw ($3.20)

We don’t have to wait long until the match of the round and given last week’s result, this meeting between the Wanderers and Melbourne City looms as an even more exciting prospect.

City have been largely outstanding this season and appeared to have last week’s match with the Brisbane Roar sewn up but conceded three in the second half to ultimately go down 4-3. That was quite clearly their worst 45 minutes of football this campaign and they will be eager to atone with a win over the third-placed Wanderers.

Western Sydney enter this off the back of a bye but prior to that, a loss to Western United. Back to Wanderland and with a statement to make, they do look overs in head-to-head betting.

Ultimately, I think that both clubs are going to sit back and I’m happy to sit on the fence.

Wellington Phoenix vs Brisbane Roar
Roar to Win ($2.55)

An interesting contest is shaping across on the Tasman on Saturday afternoon and given their performance against Melbourne City last week, Brisbane Roar look like representing a nice bit of value ($2.55 at publish).

It was a bye for the Phoenix in Week 6 and prior to that, a draw with the out-of-sorts Melbourne Victory, and it’s hard to imagine them making all in this contest following their slow start to the campaign.

The Roar have clearly been improving for each hit-out under the guidance of Robbie Fowler and their second half performance and win over Melbourne City last week was nothing short of outstanding. They are full of confidence heading to New Zealand and are well placed to make it two in a row.

Adelaide United vs Melbourne Victory
Adelaide to Win ($1.90)

The Reds will look to extend a winning streak that currently sits at three when old rivals the Melbourne Victory roll into town on Saturday evening.

They clearly required a couple of matches to find the right gear, but since winning another FFA Cup Adelaide United have been excellent, and they proved far too good for the Central Coast Mariners away from home last week.

Melbourne Victory have been substantially south of their best in season 2019/20 and they enter Week 7 eighth on the ladder; really only saved by their solitary win of the season so far. They were fair in last weekend’s Big Blue, but typically stand up in that fixture and I think they’ll find this one tough as well

Perth Glory vs Sydney FC
Sydney to Win ($2.70)

Second-placed Sydney FC take the show on the road in Week 7 and will be confident of taking another three competition points away from the slow-starting Perth Glory.

They conceded a goal right on the break but ultimately, the Sky Blues were too good for the Victory in Week 6 and ultimately strengthened their position on the ladder. They were about the only side to trouble Perth in the west last year and there is no doubt that they are in a far better position to win this weekend.

The Glory’s attempts to go one better than last season’s Grand Final loss have been beige, to say the least. They have recorded just one win from their first five matches but have also lost one only one occasion. They are another club that enters Week 7 off the back of a bye, but prior to that they failed to beat an only fair Newcastle Jets outfit.

I’m happy to take the price for Sydney FC in the match result market.

Central Coast Mariners vs Western United
0-2 Goals Scored ($2.10)

The matchday draws to a close on the Central Coast on Sunday afternoon and another interesting contest looms between the Mariners and Western United.

It was another disappointing performance and result for the Mariners last week and they will need to improve tenfold to overcome what is a similarly formed and position opponent, in Western United.

Western United suffered only their second loss of the season in Week 6, but it was easily their worst performance so far and they too will need to rally if they aren’t to drop another.

I can’t imagine either side really running away with this one and I am keen to back a low scorer.
